darkest hour, “enter oblivion” {video}

darkest hour, “enter oblivion” {video}

“Enter Oblivion” is the latest video from the melodic death metal band Darkest Hour. Singer John Henry directed the video that was shot in the Mojave Desert at a national natural landmark, Rainbow Basin. Known for being dry and desolate, the basin has awesome rock formations and fossil beds. The video shows the band playing and periodically shows a mysterious white cloaked man wondering around as if to be searching for something.
“Enter Oblivion” comes from the band’s 11th album, Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora, that was released in 2017 and was produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge). This D.C. based 5 piece has come a long way from where they started in 1995. Through multiple line up and record label changes Darkest Hour has really matured and while “Enter Oblivion” is not as heavy as what you’d expect it shows great diversity and still carries their melodic signature tone, double bass, and blast beats.
Over the past 20 years, Darkest Hour has risen up from the underground and just like Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, Darkest Hour has put their flag into the metal scene and marked their place as one of the driving forces behind what defines the true melodic brutality of metal.
Hitting the road Feb 16th Darkest Hour will be touring the east coast first and in April heading overseas with Cephalic Carnage. Check out the video for “Into Oblivion” and if you are serious about your metal and lucky enough that Darkest Hour comes through your town be there front and center and prepare for a lesson in brutality.

koda in the pursuit of greatness {video}

koda in the pursuit of greatness {video}

Releasing his newest single is Jordan Sudak under the moniker of Koda. Since his debut, Koda has pulled all the stops in order to chase the greatness that he knows could be within his reach within the coming years. Not only is Sudak an artist that can create an atmosphere for the listeners, but he is also able to relate a strong and powerful message through his creative lyricism. Like many of the other artists in this genre, Sudak feeds off of the brooding intensity of his music that is sincere and fueled by passion that has been growing since he first started performing.

“White Dove”, like much of his other music, brings something different to the scene that fans and critics alike have latched on to and have began to crave and expect. Not only does Koda’s music bring in traditional sounds, but it also overlays many of the hooks with loops that sound foreign and has become a signature of this artist. Now that he has released this new single, fans are really wanting to see Koda perform live more often in order to hopefully show off his unique talent.

Keep up with Koda here.

no liars, “guilt trip”

no liars, “guilt trip”

No Liars has released the new video for their single “Guilt Trip” off of their debut album The Cause and The Cure and is about regret and being isolated. The song talks about allowing things to get between you and your loved ones. It addresses the trials and complications that get in the way of your relationships, and the realization that it is too late to change what happened. The theme of the song is: What could I have done differently?

Depicted is a young man that gets into an argument with his dad and leaves the house, leading to a party. The argument is the last time he gets to speak to his father. The video is fast-paced but holds a powerful message behind it. The video teaches the listener that you never know what may happen at any second. “Guilt Trip” is guaranteed to pull at your heart strings with the message behind this video.

Keep your eyes peeled for No Liars’ new album here.

rare diagram, “keep me” {premiere}

rare diagram, “keep me” {premiere}

Shot on the expansive and gorgeous Oregon coast and TIllamook State Forest – a beauty captured which the band is very proud of -, Rare Diagram brings us the exclusive premiere of the music video for their single “Keep Me”. The band is expertly comprised of Justin Chase (keys, vocals), Emma Browne (guitar, keys, vocals), Joseph Berman (guitar), Chris Marshall (bass), and Alex Radakovich (drums), and the song itself was written while Emma and Justin (who both make appearances in the video) were traveling in Argentina last year. Delivered mellifluously, “Keep Me” is a song about dealing with passivity in relationships and possesses a bittersweet feeling that only the Oregon coast could capture.

Director Hanna Hagen is the mastermind behind the video’s concept – which was inspired by the 70s vibe to the track itself – a movie-like quality to a tortured and beautiful plot line that could only be achieved by an array of vintage lenses and an incredible Director of Photography (Sean Conley). This video is also the perfect escape for those of us experiencing FOMO about not being able to go on luscious nature hikes in the dead of winter.

Let yourself get lost in this quirky, moving, and mesmerizing video.

Keep your eyes peeled for a record release in late summer 2018 via the band’s Facebook.

ferris and sylvester, “better in yellow”

ferris and sylvester, “better in yellow”

Yellow seems to be a common theme in the world of London-based folk duo Ferris and Sylvester. Following their debut EP, The Yellow Line, Issy Ferris and Archie Sylvester have released the single “Better in Yellow”, off their upcoming EP, Made in Streatham.

Filmed in 80’s-esque 4:3, the video for “Better in Yellow” is full of visually appealing shots with a sunshine yellow theme and old-timey TV feel. The simplicity of the visuals allows for a spotlight on the lyrics and instrumentation of the track. A tribute to standing out instead of letting one’s originality be sucked up by the humdrum of the world, “Better in Yellow” is sure to flood your day with hope and happiness. There’s something so heart-warming about watching someone get an egg cracked on their head, covered in yellow paint, and rained upon with potato chips.

With a unique sound combining folky tunes with hints of blues, and even a touch of trumpet, “Better in Yellow” is not to be missed. Ferris and Sylvester know how to not only work together on a musical level, but also in matters of aesthetic, and the “Better in Yellow” video is tribute to this.

hinds, “new for you”

hinds, “new for you”

Exploding out of Madrid, Spain, the indie rock girl group Hinds has released the official music video for “New For You”, a single from their upcoming album I Don’t Run, out April 6th. Comprised of vocals and guitar from Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote, Ade Martin on bass and backing vocals, and Amber Grimbergen on drums, Hinds has been around since 2011 and already has a devoted fan base.

The video is, thematically, based on Hinds (and friends) playing football (American soccer), and full of feel-good, “I don’t care” vibes. Tossing around feelings and fun sounds as well as a ball, the authentically youthful and carefree Hinds bring their unique sound to a fun-loving video, amping their followers up for the release of I Don’t Run. While definitely not as staged and structured as some of their previous videos like “Warts”, the video for “New For You” perfectly accompanies the song. Full of 90’s-esque vibes and a vibrant color scheme partnered with the bold vocals of the girl group, “New For You” will have you bopping along to it in now time.

hobbyist, “teeth of the shark”

hobbyist, “teeth of the shark”

This month, Chicago-based duo Hobbyist – comprised of Holly Prindle and Marc Mozga – released a new album titled Sonic Cramps. The album is, admittedly, their take on events that occurred while they took up residence in Barcelona, Spain a year ago, focusing on their vantage point of what was happening politically in the United States at that time. But they didn’t release their gold mine of an album until they shared one last thing… the video for their track “Teeth of The Shark”.

The video itself has a very experimental feel to it, though comprised of what we assume are Holly’s normal, every day visuals. The experience is heightened when it is all thrown into time lapse, clear visuals blurring together and many settings becoming a single experience for the viewer. The song itself also feels very experimental, like beat poetry come to life.

Sonic Cramps is out now. Keep up with Hobbyist here.

rust dust, “wayfaring stranger” {premiere}

rust dust, “wayfaring stranger” {premiere}

Since the September release of his album Diviners and Shivs, Brooklyn-based outlaw folk musician Ardell Jason Shealy Stutts – more commonly referred to by his stage name Rust Dust – has been creating and releasing visuals to go along with the 13-track collection. His latest? A live recording of the man himself playing his track “Wayfaring Stranger” at Silver Springs Farm. Rustic and simple surroundings bring a humble and relatable feel to the experience, Rust Dust’s vocals reassuring in their delivery.

His beard will only sweeten the deal for ya.
