Rapper Kahiem Rivera just release his latest “This Night Last Year” (ft. Snake Eye). I’m a big fan of rap, but I’m even a bigger fan of amazing rap that the whole world has yet to discover. Kahiem Rivera hits everything perfectly on “This Night Last Year.” Snake Eyes takes the lead at the beginning of the song with hypnotic vocals. Kahiem Rivera quickly joins in as his voice will grab you and draw you in. He pronounces every word perfectly and his way of rapping is meticulous because he wants you to listen to what he’s actually saying. On “This Night Last Year,” Rivera tells a tale of staying out late- the conflict between exciting and “I need to stop going out…what am I living for?” feeling.
Admits Rivera:
I fell into a long depression last winter, during a leg injury from getting hit by a car. Once I was semi-healthy again, I started going out a lot to this one bar to get out of that rut. Just being there almost every night, till 4am, binge drinking with a lot of people who didn’t seem to have a care in the world. It almost felt like the club in San Junipero, from Black Mirror. So the song is balancing the feeling of having genuine fun but also an existential “wtf am I doing?
If you have seen that episode of Black Mirror, then you will recognize the direct correlation to the songs reference.

Moving into the limelight after releasing her debut album is 90’s inspired band Soccer Mommy with the newest music video for one of her most popular tracks, “Cool”. Opening with a scene set in the middle of what appears to be a high school soccer field, the music video immediately envelops and intrigues the watcher to continue watching. From the beginning, the bright, crisp colors juxtapose the relaxed vibe of the track. Not only does this highlight the song’s unique sound, but also creates a clever visual spectacle that definitely shows signs of 90’s influences. Not only do the colors enhance the viewing experience, but the animations, created by Art Baby Girl, are clever and perfectly match the atmosphere of the music.
Soccer Mommy definitely has a bright future within her own sphere of cool, collected artistry that she have built for herself. Although she has hit a home run since the release of the full-length album, she has continued to chase after what seemed like such an elusive dream. This same principle is manifest in the quality of her music video, which is absolutely stunning. With the fire burning bright, there is no question that there is solid potential moving forward for Soccer Mommy.

Full of life and that 80’s vibe that fans can’t get enough of is newest single, “Little Mystery” from Matthew Meade’s newest project, Spritzer. With fans waiting on the edges of their seats in anticipation of his next full-length album Love. Lies. Decay—which comes out on April, 27—they are also just eating up this single. Although there is a familiarity in his catchy new sound, Spritzer adds a unique twist to the wide array of genres that they pull inspiration from. Ranging from indie rock to bossa nova, “Little Mysteries” has everything that the fans are both wanting and expecting.
When speaking of where inspiration for this song came from, Meade makes it clear that it was brought about by the blissful new relationship that has budded since the release of some of his older tracks. In his own words Meade considers it the “fun and shamelessly cheesy love song,” of the album. “Little Mystery,” is by far the most energetic and upbeat song on the upcoming album and has a nice spin on what fans might of expected out of this budding artist. Now that he has once again expanded his repertoire, we are all waiting to see what Matthew Meade has in store for the future of Spritzer.

Lines has released their new video for their song “You”. The music video for “You” consists of great visuals that capture the songs essence. In the video , two lovers are seen being physical and there is a bit of knife play involved.
“You” shows the love between two lovers. Sometimes love can be addictive almost as if it is something you constantly need in your life if you have ever felt it. The lovers in the music video display their love for one another in a different way. The song is a great representation of a dark love connection and how unhealthy relationships can be. The video shows how toxic your relationship can be no matter how much you are in love.
Lines capture the meaning behind their song perfectly with their video. The video is well put together and makes you anxious for the next video from Lines.

I like minor keys…actually, I more than “like” them – I’m INFATUATED with them. Something about the raw darkness of the attack & sound just makes me feel like it’s about to get real – that we’re about to fight this war masks off in the mud – OVER our freedom. Whether it be for our freedom to love, our freedom to speak, our freedom to deserve, our freedom to be…..I see life staring up from the deep end, I refuse to dip my feet to play in the shallows. That has just ALWAYS been who I am. It’s either: I DON’T go in the water or I run FULL THROTTLE till I can no longer touch the ocean floor. I fuel my body like I live my life – with MOTIVATION. I used to foul out every ball game because I played that much harder than the rest & my feet stay planted and I wanted that damn ball so bad – no one or no thing could ever get in my way to stop me. I go hard because I love hard, the vulnerability of my capability flies behind me like a cape and I light fires without lighters and own it all because I’m a fighter. These songs encompass the magic of the minors, articulate voices full of angst & swag, not here to mess around. They are triumphant and LOUD & the hip/hop edge is definitely influencing this era of my life & art. I embrace it, I learn from it, & I bend it. To the next generation of sound do I march.

Hip-hop duo Atmosphere returned to Kansas City on Saturday, the 24th at the Voodoo Lounge. Atmosphere was previously in Kansas City three years ago and was thrilled about their return. The duo performed songs from albums such as Fishing Blues, God Loves Ugly, and Lucy Ford. Atmosphere did not have a problem with keeping the crowd hyped, commanding us to “Put your hands up Kansas City.”
The show was so wild, that at one point in the night, an edible was thrown onstage. It was acknowledged, but fittingly thrown back into the audience. Atmosphere even noted that they were working on a new album, and previewed a new song. It was a night filled with energy and excitement, and if you have the chance, catch Atmosphere on tour.

Spelles is back with her second EP titled Skeleton Coast, which consists of five songs that define who Spelles is as an artist. The lead single from the album is titled “Dead in the Water”, which is a song with immense emotion and power. It has a pop vibe with a dark sound to it, showing that there is power that lives inside of us that we sometimes cannot recognize.
A favorite from the EP is “Light Me on Fire”, which captures Spelles’ powerful vocals as an artist and shows why she is destined to live out her musical dreams. The song is about staying to support someone instead of leaving them.
Listening to Spelles’ new EP is an absolute joy. After listening to her EP, the anticipation to see where she grows as an artist is exciting.

Lunar hits the mark with her song “Miss U No More”, starting off with a soft beat as Lunar’s voice adds on to the track. The song is really good and at the end believe me when I say it will leave you wanting more. Lunar shows off her musical talent in the song, letting her vocals shine through the track.
The song is about the singer no longer missing her lover. The singer in the beginning seems like she misses her lover as the song goes on you learn that she in fact does not. Lunar understands the reasons why the relationship is over and comes to the conclusion that the relationship is over and it is some what her fault.
“Miss U No More” is a great song for those trying to get over a relationship. The song is well worth the listen, solidifying Lunar’s spot in music.

Febueder just released a video for their latest “Paramount Tether”. The video had a homemade feel to it but is nothing short of trippy. What starts as a series of street lights, soon turn into flashes of lights and candles. The camera starts cutting to random images which include but are not limited to, dead dogs/animals, blood soaked sheets, random strangers, and bodies of water.
Have you ever watched anything and after you were just like “What?” That’s how I feel about this video, incredibly intrigued in the best way. The song is trippy in itself too. It flows with drums, trumpets, and deep vocals. It has a similar feel to Alt-J’s sound, but this is more distinctive and less produced which makes for a raw sound.
