le days, “inside me”

le days, “inside me”

Le Days – the folk music project by Sweden’s Daniel Hedin – releases the next installment of creation with the premiere of his new music video for “Inside Me”. The video – shot highlighting jewel tones in a beautiful and seductive light – follows a girl’s life of internal conflict, as she clearly despises her mother’s behavior. Emotional abuse is obvious, physical abuse is clearly displayed. It’s alarming, but insanely gratifying to see artists addressing very real and very difficult problems.

Says the artist: “When you dream and silence finds you, everything you ever felt hits you like a flood. Images, voices flashes through your head like an unstoppable force of nature. You are everything that’s been and it is what makes you breathe and all that keeps you breathing is to keep dreaming.”

mien, “odyssey”

mien, “odyssey”

With members from all over and all kinds of musical backgrounds, it’s no wonder that MIEN is a veritable treasure trove of sonic fanaticism. MIEN is made up of Alex Maas (vocals, samples, loops), Tom Furse (keyboards, programming), Rishi Dhir (bass, sitar, keyboards) and John-Mark Lapham (keyboards, samples, programming). The four-piece has just dropped the video for their new song “Odyssey”, off their recently released self-titled debut album. Virtually an outlandish collage of adult magazine cut-outs, the video for “Odyssey” takes the viewer on a psychedelic journey that perfectly matches the vocals and instrumentation of the track.

John-Mark Lapham says of the song:

Odyssey started out as an instrumental by Tom. I had heard a song [“Tchi Tchi Vox”] by an 80s band called Vox Populi and I tried sampling the  chorus, which is in Dutch. It didn’t work, but Vox Populi ended up re-recording the vocals for us. The tchi-tchi boy can be whatever you wanted it to be, especially since it is in another language. It is like a musical Rorschach test. Could be she-she boy, chi-chi boy…

stardust creatures release quirky “spaced out” video

stardust creatures release quirky “spaced out” video

Ever wanted to watch someone in an animal mask play electric guitar with a saw? Look no further! Indie-rock band Stardust Creatures has just released a new video for their single, “Spaced Out”.  Stardust Creatures is made up of lead vocalist/guitarist Colin Coogan, George Sarpola on drums, Colin O’Rourke on bass, Kristen Mita providing backing vocals, synths, bells, and Adam Marks bringing keys and vocals to the mix. The Brooklyn-based five-piece’s new video brings quirky and honest visuals to the viewer. Balancing ethereal and realistic scenes, “Spaced Out” is one-of-a-kind.

Says Colin Coogan of the new song: “I’m a distracted, fidgety person. I zone in and out, I have a hard time sitting still for long periods of time, and I lose things pretty often. As people like me grow older, we quickly discover the need to work out survival strategies- you can’t make excuses forever. You get better as you work at it, but sometimes it feels like you’re just treading water, and you end up learning a lot of lessons the hard way. There’s always a tension between the desire to be unapologetically yourself and the need to make compromises to get by. I still haven’t fully figured it out. Writing music is part of how I process things, so a lot of those frustrations ended up inspiring this song.”

juice, “sugar”

juice, “sugar”

Boston-based seven piece band Juice has just come out with their latest video for their single, “Sugar,” and it is as sweet as its title implies. Since the birth of this up and coming band back in 2014, they have been creating music that is as lively and exciting as their name promises. After performing together in Boston College’s Battle of the Bands, they solidified a union that would bring them to the point that they are currently at in their music careers. Despite what seems to be a perfect mesh of similar personalities, each band member comes equipped with a unique personality that is highlighted specifically in the music video for their single, “Sugar.” With themes of individualism and companionship clearly represented, in a seemingly effortless array of visual spectacles, viewers are able to see into the heart of what makes this band thrive. “We really wanted to get into the band here. With a project like this, there’s a real opportunity to capture individual personalities as well as their relationships among one another. We wanted to provide a cool space where that process would happen effortlessly. Once that was in place, the rest came easy” said Juice about their music video.

“Sugar” is the first single to be released from Juice’s next big project Workin’ on Lovin’, which is scheduled to drop on June 15th of this year. Not only is the single a perfect precursor to their bigger project, but it has effectively excited fans and has us on on the edge of our seats in anticipation.

Also, keep up with Juice as they continue on their journey by learning more about them on their website.

hamish hawk & the new outfit, “nomad”

hamish hawk & the new outfit, “nomad”

Edinburgh-based alternative collective Hamish Hawk & The New Outfit – comprised of the indellible Hamish Hawk and his cohorts Alex Duthie, Andrew Pearson, John Cashman, and Barry Carty – is releasing the official music video for their track “Nomad” today, and we’re excited to announce that we’ve got the exclusive premiere. Trudging through a murky, guitar-heavy soundscape, we find Hamish’s charming and quirky vocals to be refreshing, holding onto every one of his theatric, beautiful words. The song itself paints quite a vivid picture of very specific instances, though we somehow feel a kinship to Hawk because of it.

And perhaps that kinship is electrified by the music video, which is largely set in front of a black backdrop with a few key props. A warmth to the frame, coupled with vintage items and Hawk’s lush, textured style make for a delicate and beautiful display for the track. Additionally, Hawk’s theatric vocals go head to head with his dancing and elaborate movements. We’re big fans of the video, and a part of us hopes to see him blossom into – not only a more talented songwriter and musician, but – perhaps the composer or star of a musical.

All that said, we think the video is worth a watch. Check it out below!

calan mai, “we’ve got love”

calan mai, “we’ve got love”

Out with an exciting new video, created to accompany one of his greatest singles to date, “We’ve Got Love,” is up and coming, rising talent, Calan Mai. Since the release of the single, fans all over the country have fallen for this infectious Australia-based artist. Due to this positive reaction, it comes as no surprise that the colorful visual spectacle that now accompanies this track is another success on Mai’s resume. At first glance, this music video encompasses a light hearted folk-vibe that fills the room with joy and light. However, as one considers the wonderful lyrics, there is a deeper meaning that speaks of unconditional love and family.

While listening to this beautifully light track, it is hard not to fall in love with the clean vocals and feeling of happiness that often surrounds work produced by Mai. In an article written in Glide, it described Mai’s track as “Distinct folk-pop… soaring vocals delivered with warmth and ease, intricate lyricism and detailed storytelling… the states will certainly be hearing more of his unique song-craft.” Without a doubt this Australian artist has a bright future ahead of him as he continues to team up with those who enhance his already natural and pure sound.
