sis, euphorbia

sis, euphorbia

San Francisco experimental collective Sis has some major news for your ears this week, and we’ve got the exclusive. The band – comprised of Jenny Gillespie Mason (voice, synth, guitar, piano), Rob Shelton (synth, programming, piano), Carly Bond (electric guitar, synth, vocals,) Joseph Adamik (drums, bass clarinet, marimba,) Andrew Maguire (drums, marimba,) Jamie Riotto (bass, synth), and many contributors to the horns section – is bringing us their debut full-length on the 17th. Euphorbia – which boasts thirteen incredibly composed tracks – provides a kaleidoscope soundscape that makes it perfect for this time of year, as the time seems to slow down and the leaves start to change. But the most magnificent aspect of what Sis has to deliver, perhaps, is the sublime lyricism and attention to detail that the band has been able to cultivate for this, their first full-length. To the untrained ear, this band feels as though they have been together for decades, with a fresh take on some impelling sounds.

Get your first listen to the album in its entirety below, and be sure to grab a copy for yourself when it drops on Friday!

tuxedo wildlife, myself together

tuxedo wildlife, myself together

Nashville-based musician Collin Gundry, whom you may know as Tuxedo Wildlife, releases his new EP Myself Together this week, and we have the exclusive streaming premiere of this masterpiece in its entirety. Many of the songs on this EP are emotional, heartfelt songs while many of the songs also have a slower beat yet calming feel to them. Tracks “Isotopes” and “Myself Together” are a little faster compared to the rest, and the vocals are a bit reminiscent of Imagine Dragons. But his luscious, deep vocals create a unique kaleidoscope of a landscape that is established at the beginning of the EP, and doesn’t drop off until the very last lines of the sixth track.

Myself Together embodies his journey through uncertain love and emotions which I’m sure many people can relate to throughout life, which is just another one of the reasons why Tuxedo Wildlife is a perfect new artist to listen to. Not only can you check out his new music below, but you can also check out his new video for “Depths” on YouTube.

lanford black, electric sweat

lanford black, electric sweat

Seattle-based indie rock/soul band Lanford Black is ready to take on the world with their new LP Electric Sweat. And though it won’t be available until July 27th, we happen to have the exclusive streaming premiere of the 10 track, self-released stunner in its entirety.

The soundscape lends itself nicely to a night in the backyard with friends, even in this sticky weather.

michael charles smith, in the shadow

michael charles smith, in the shadow

Portland-based art-folk musician Michael Charles Smith is hitting a high note with the soundscape provided by his often ambient melodies and soft – yet assertive – vocals in his new 12-track release, In The Shadow. Bathed in a raspiness that is both emphatic and ethereal, Smith’s lyrics are apt to tug at the heartstrings of many, as they paint him as a vulnerable, masterful lyricist.

Beginning with the upbeat track “Hello Hello”, the album establishes a true journey for the listener, pace changing with each no track, and mindsets shifting from one end of the spectrum to the other, as he repeats, “I’ll die alone” in third track “Angel, and then softly croons, “I must have fallen in love” immediately following, in fourth track “One Word”.

The variety in the soundscape of In The Shadow makes sense, when the album is put into context. Inspired by his past struggles with addiction, Smith has come to terms with his circumstances, transforming that energy into a beautifully well-rounded body of work that you might never turn off. We’ve got the exclusive streaming premiere below.

cody melville, bonds eye {premiere}

cody melville, bonds eye {premiere}

As if the double entendre of the title of singer/songwriter Cody Melville‘s impressive tenth album isn’t enough, he has birthed a genre-hopping, robust work of art to support it. Gliding from a sound that could easily have been inspired by Bruce Springsteen, to more twangy, country-inspired compositions, to soulful ballads and beyond, Melville has somehow managed to capture an entire lifetime’s worth of styles and energies in just one release. Bonds Eye might not be officially available until tomorrow, but for now we have the honor of hosting a streaming premiere of the 10 track release in its entirety. So make the right choice, and get lost in the breathtaking complexity of it Melville’s latest.

Bonds Eye is out December 8th, and the rest of his catalog is available on Bandcamp. Keep up with Cody Melville here.

obnox, murder radio {premiere}

obnox, murder radio {premiere}

Today, Cleveland-based punk artist OBNOX‘s (Lamont “Bim” Thomas) second full length LP of the year – quickly following Niggative Approach – Murder Radio drops via Ever/Never Records. It isn’t the first time he’s released multiple LPs in one year, as he cranked out two in just seven months back in 2015. In fact, he’s released an impressive seven LPs and nine EPs in the last six years alone, which just might make him the hardest working – or at least most productive – guy in the business.
Joined this time around by Steve Mehlman on drums and Chuck Cieslik on guitar, Murder Radio takes a dive into justice, politics, and darkness in OBNOX’s quintessential noisy, rough around the edges way. From first heavy-hitting track “Movimiento”, through no holds barred honest track “I Hate Everything”, all the way to final track “Cheers”, you might feel like your speakers will crash around you in a cacophony of sound, simultaneously allowing you a sense of freedom that only OBNOX’s music can.
So what are you waiting for? We’ve got it streaming right here!
