akine, “money in your mouth”

17-year-old musician Akine is gaining traction, now with her new track “Money In Your Mouth”, where she brings us an incredibly vulnerable side of herself. The intense lyrics paint a picture that will leave a bad taste in your mouth on behalf of Akine – or, the protagonist in the song -, but the vocals themselves are simultaneously edgy and smooth. The song is light enough to feel perfect for an autumn get together, bundled in hoodies and rocking vintage boots.

smoke season, “hot damn”

smoke season, “hot damn”

Los Angeles-based electro-soul duo Smoke Season – comprised of Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen – is at it again with their new single “Hot Damn”, a hard-hitting, sultry dream of a song. Filled to the brim with pop culture references, the song tracks an infatuation – and perhaps a blooming romance – in a way that you can feel deep in your bones. The percussion brings a real badass sensation to it all, heightened only by Gabrielle’s raspy, gorgeous vocals. Check it out below!

emily jackson, “oh mother”

emily jackson, “oh mother”

Indie pop musician Emily Jackson may have taken a decade off of creating music to pursue her acting career, but her new single “Oh Mother” throws her right back into the magic of it all. A recent move from the sunny coast of California to the bustling streets of NYC pulled her back into her music creation sphere. And, even though she’s not acting in the song itself, there is a big, theatrical feel to the song that is absolutely gorgeous. Sounds of crashing waves and a robust feel brought on by reverb in the vocals brings this track into ballad territory, and we are all about it.

“Oh Mother” is out now. Keep up with Emily Jackson here.

the eyebrows, “avocado”

the eyebrows, “avocado”

Charlotte-based rock trio The Eyebrows – comprised of Jay Garrigan, Shawn Lynch, and Jon Lock – are hitting a trending topic with new track “Avocado”. The song hits with a vintage, Munsters-like intro, with quirky vocals and massive amounts of reverb lacing everything together. Whether singing directly to an avocado or singing of someone who reminds them of avocados, it is clear that these men either greatly love avocados or greatly enjoy making fun of people who do. Perhaps both. And that’s the magic of it all.

party hardly, “terry shure”

party hardly, “terry shure”

Party rock collective Party Hardly – comprised of Tom Barr, Lachlan Banner, Matt Pownall, and Stanley Braddock – seems to be taking a more leisurely pace with latest track “Terry Shure” and we’re totally in love with its low key vibe. While the mood is blissfully casual, the lyrics themselves are something we can get behind – and 110% something we could cause mischief around if need be. So sit back and enjoy the latest from Party Hardly, because we know it’s about to be a staple on your newest playlist.

no joy, “hawaii”

no joy, “hawaii”

Montreal-based No Joy has teamed up with Third Man Records for a Blue Room Session – a series of live recordings with bands – performing their single “Hawaii”. No Joy’s live version “Hawaii” displays a fun, fresh take on the song. It’s still got that rough edge we’re so fond of, and we’re floored by the intensity of the sound.

“Hawaii” on Blue Room Sessions is available now. Keep up with No Joy here.

tokyo police club, “new blues”

tokyo police club, “new blues”

Tokyo Police Club – the incredible group comprised of Dave Monks, Josh Hooks, Graham Wright and Greg Alsop – released their latest single “New Blues” recently, igniting the passion in their fans hearts once again, as they have been proven to do repeatedly. The single consists of the sound of drums and guitar ringing out in the background. The song has a bit of a slow rock sound to it, and has a markedly different sound from Tokyo Police Club’s previous two albums. “New Blues” shows that the group is trying something more diverse within their music. The group has also announced a three week U.S. tour and – trust us – you do NOT want to miss this.
