pyra, “regret me”

pyra, “regret me”

After being crowned by Apple Music as their Best New Artist in 2016, with a million-plus plays of her music, Pyra has gone from strength to strength. For her latest outing the self confessed ‘solar soul’ has teamed up with indie label Absent Mind. Together they bring you the single “Regret Me.”

A soulful, stripped back cut – which was not only written but produced by the lady herself – it’s a downtempo mix of R&B vocals and crisp electronic production. The single showcases Pyra’s ability to deliver a soothing, dream-like vocal tone set to pitch perfect production: strings, synths and suitable percussion set the mood.

“Regret Me” is out now so go check it out here.

fickle friends, “broken sleep”

fickle friends, “broken sleep”

Brighton-based indie pop quintet Fickle Friends recently released a synth-driven, flurry of sound in the form of their track “Broken Sleep”. The new song just so happens to be the title track of their debut EP on Palmeira Records. “Broken Sleep” is smooth as honey in its disposition, the percussion hitting in the right places and in just the right 80s/90s way that you can’t help but move your hips to it all. This track would serve well in a crowded club setting, whether at an upscale dance club with neon lights or in a dingy underground nightclub in SoHo.

our first year of existence inspires september spotify treasure trove

our first year of existence inspires september spotify treasure trove

Today is officially our one year anniversary. That’s right. We’ve been introducing amazing music to ears around the world, getting behind the scenes looks at your favorite bands, and covering gorgeous live music for an entire year together. That’s not a simple feat, especially in our current publication and music industry climates. I couldn’t be more proud of this project, the passion it was born from, and the loving community that it has facilitated. Thank you, so much.

Today is also my parents’ anniversary, which was the main reason I chose this day to launch the site. Happy Anniversary, you adorable, beautiful, wonderful people! You have inspired so many of my friends – close or otherwise – to constantly say they wish you were their parents. You leave a lasting impression on people, your friends and family adore you, and I am just so proud to be your daughter!

In honor of both of the above facts, I introduce our running September playlist today. Each month, we will have a curated Spotify playlist that grows as the month goes on. This one is pretty scattered – in the most quirky and beautiful of ways – and will continue to be updated throughout the month. (In other words, keep checking back to get in on the new tunes!)

unknown caller, “sayonara”

unknown caller, “sayonara”

It’s mid-week and we need a mood boosting song. Fear not, as self-proclaimed “midnight pop” musician Unknown Caller‘s new track “Sayonara” fits the bill exactly. Light as air, synth-fueled melodies dance around his high ranging vocals to make your heart melt in only the way Unknown Caller will eventually become known for. All we know is this track is perfect for a low key end of summer party, and would be absolutely gorgeous played over a dimly lit dance floor.

haerts, “no love for the wild”

haerts, “no love for the wild”

New York by way of Munich indie pop duo HAERTS – comprised of Nini Fabi and Benjamin Gebert – has taken synth-flooded ballads to another level with their new track “No Love for the Wild”. Explains Nini of the track, “‘No Love for the Wild’ is about a love that is deeply connected yet completely free. It’s the outcry in the moment in which you lose faith in that kind of love and the hope to be proven wrong.”

Seeing as we’ve all lost faith in something at one point or another, this song is palpable in a very rare and true form. In fact, it’s poignant in many ways and allows us the space for introspection.

Enjoy “No Love for the Wild” below.

cayucas, “jessica wj”

From the first lines of “Jessica WJ”, the listener gets a nostalgic feeling as they quickly move their hips to the contagious pop melody. And you can taste the Santa Monica sunset in the track, something the twin brothers of Cayucas who live in Santa Monica may or may not have missed as they were recording the track. We’ve basically fallen in love with their work because of “Jessica WJ”, and you probably will as well.

ishani, “dark angel”

ishani, “dark angel”

If you’re searching for a little spark of badass in your soundscape today, indie musician Ishani‘s new track “Dark Angel”. Her vocals range on the higher side, with beautiful instrumentation to match and bring a little more edge to the track. But what is important to note – aside from the alluring sound to the track – is the important subject matter it addresses.

“I have lost close friends to suicide,” Ishani says of the song’s subject, “and recent events have forced me to revisit this song, – we are living through a time of increased awareness of mental health, but we still see so many people ending their lives.”

“Dark Angel” is multifaceted, but at its peak is a song of hope. Check it out below!
