new spell, of time, part ii

new spell, of time, part ii

San Francisco-based dark indie pop duo New Spell – comprised of Leanne Kelly and Jacob Frautschi – dropped their 4-track EP Of Time, Part II today, and we’ve got your exclusive sneak peek at the release in its entirety. While aspects of “You Win” feel electronic – the song oozes quirky instrumentals that mirror our favorite video games – Kelly’s light as a feather vocals carry it into a more ethereal soundscape. The duo took the time to add fluid-sounding instrumentals to second track “Like Water”, and brought the entire tone of the album down for third track “Merely Mortal”. “Of Time” maintains this darker demeanor, while still leaving its listener feeling uplifted and – at times – breathless as it winds the release down.

fickle friends, “broken sleep”

fickle friends, “broken sleep”

Brighton-based indie pop quintet Fickle Friends recently released a synth-driven, flurry of sound in the form of their track “Broken Sleep”. The new song just so happens to be the title track of their debut EP on Palmeira Records. “Broken Sleep” is smooth as honey in its disposition, the percussion hitting in the right places and in just the right 80s/90s way that you can’t help but move your hips to it all. This track would serve well in a crowded club setting, whether at an upscale dance club with neon lights or in a dingy underground nightclub in SoHo.

haerts, “no love for the wild”

haerts, “no love for the wild”

New York by way of Munich indie pop duo HAERTS – comprised of Nini Fabi and Benjamin Gebert – has taken synth-flooded ballads to another level with their new track “No Love for the Wild”. Explains Nini of the track, “‘No Love for the Wild’ is about a love that is deeply connected yet completely free. It’s the outcry in the moment in which you lose faith in that kind of love and the hope to be proven wrong.”

Seeing as we’ve all lost faith in something at one point or another, this song is palpable in a very rare and true form. In fact, it’s poignant in many ways and allows us the space for introspection.

Enjoy “No Love for the Wild” below.

emily jackson, “oh mother”

emily jackson, “oh mother”

Indie pop musician Emily Jackson may have taken a decade off of creating music to pursue her acting career, but her new single “Oh Mother” throws her right back into the magic of it all. A recent move from the sunny coast of California to the bustling streets of NYC pulled her back into her music creation sphere. And, even though she’s not acting in the song itself, there is a big, theatrical feel to the song that is absolutely gorgeous. Sounds of crashing waves and a robust feel brought on by reverb in the vocals brings this track into ballad territory, and we are all about it.

“Oh Mother” is out now. Keep up with Emily Jackson here.

so below, “drive”

so below, “drive”

Goth pop musician So Below has recently released new song “Drive” that includes a splash of upbeat indie pop. This song has a calm/mellow beat with smooth vocals sounding similar to the vocals of singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson. Madeline North, the sole creator of So Below, uses her unique vocals in each song to draw in listeners from any genre. You can also hear her vocal similarities to ‘Drive’ in her other tracks ‘Visions’ and ‘Close’. ‘Drive’ not only is the perfect song to play with your windows rolled down, but also the perfect song to play on a rainy day!

Make sure you check out all of So Below’s present and past music because you will not be disappointed!

joe wood, “parking lots”

joe wood, “parking lots”

It’s time to get lost in Joe Wood‘s new song “Parking Lots”! Prior to this song, Joe Wood took off from his booming success due to hit single ‘Had Enough’, where he basically states that he’s had enough! All of the success from this song led him to land great publications and many significant reviews! You may be thinking, “how can it get better than that?”, but in his new song ‘Parking Lots’, Wood sets all of the bars for fellow indie pop stars on the rise. In this song, Wood talks about the concept of getting lost and being free, and that is exactly how you will feel when listening to this song. The upbeat tempo and indie pop style of ‘Parking Lots’ will leave you feeling happy without a care in the world; not to mention, you will also be left wanting to keep this song on repeat.  Sometimes all it takes to feel free, is driving circles in parking lots!

Make sure to check out all of Joe Wood’s new music here, and if you get the chance, go see him live on August 30th!

mini mansions, “works every time”

mini mansions, “works every time”

Are you looking for an up and coming indie pop band to listen to this year? If so, you’ll want to check out band Mini Mansions who will be officially releasing their new EP Works Every Time on September 28th. The title track is both a calm and smooth track with an upbeat tempo so catchy that it will leave you wanting to play it on repeat. You may realize that Mini Mansions have many similar characteristics when compared to alternative/pop band WALK THE MOON, between both vocals and genre. If you enjoy music such as this, then you will want to keep an eye out not only for their EP coming out early fall, but you will also want to be prepared for their new album coming sometime in 2019! Instead of just listening to their music online, it would be even better to see them live on tour this upcoming fall! You will be able to catch Mini Mansions on tour alongside fellow alternative/rock band Arctic Monkeys.

The new visual for “Works Every Time” is dark, theatrical, and endearing. Escape your workday for a few minutes below!

In the meantime, keep up on all of their new music here, and make sure to stay tuned for their EP release on September 28th!

seasaw, “god(zilla)

seasaw, “god(zilla)

Everyone’s favorite indie pop duo Seasaw – expertly comprised of Meg Golz and Eve Wilczewski – is back with another new music video for the entrancing track “God(zilla)”. With insightful, relatable lyrics set to raw guitar, their gorgeous, far-ranging vocals make the song feel like absolute magic. And the music video is nothing less than magic as well, as an actual Godzilla outfit is utilized, and there may or may not be a tiny town to crush. But if we had a trainer teaching us how to be a giant, green, badass, we’d probably feel just as magical as this silly, fun video makes us feel.

joyeur, “fast as you can”

joyeur, “fast as you can”

Los Angeles- based indie pop duo Joyeur released “Fast As You Can” on August 9th, and we’re not sure we’ve taken it off loop since then. At this time of year, the fun tends to slow down and the work comes out. School is coming up, a lot of busy seasons at jobs are ramping up, it’s no longer vacation season. But Joyeur provides an escape from all of that. It seems to be a developing pattern that the duo’s hard, cutting attitude, and intricate lyrics stick with you, to say the least. If you keep your ears glued to all notifications of Joyeur’s releases, we have a feeling you won’t possibly regret it.
