“Heart beats” is a playlist full of sultry sounds. From funky tunes to instrumental jams – this playlist is all about the feels. Curated around my first single “Night In China”, this lineup has both an exciting yet sensual quality. The songs on here are cinematic and always bring me into a story, a mood, or a memory. I am constantly growing, learning, and discovering in my own music, but I always find myself coming back to this playlist. My sister and I add to it constantly so definitely continue to check it out – and let it take you place.

We all have plenty of days where we feel strange, exhausted, disoriented, or just not like ourselves. When I find myself deep within my own thoughts, lost in the weirdness, I like to put on my “Wiggle Beats”. The songs in this collection have different effects on my being. Carry the Weight by Morgxn, for instance, overwhelms my heart with emotions, simultaneously giving me the urge to move – dance, be proactive… I seek solace in these tunes, for many reasons, but in one way or another, they each get my blood flowing, emotions heightened, and pull me out of my own thoughts. I hope they bring others a similar sensation!

New York-based electro-pop artist KYOSi recently curated a lavish, kaleidoscope of a soundtrack feature exclusively for Imperfect Fifth, and we’ve got it for you today! I created this collection of songs because they represent what inspires me in music. They all have an essence of authenticity. It’s that mix of an infectious melody and a rebellious spirit that ultimately drives me as an artist, and influenced my upcoming second album, True Nature.
I included “Electric Chapel” by Lady Gaga because she inspired me tremendously when I was 17 and decided I was going to be a pop star. That song is so specific to her. I love the twisted romance of it all, and the distorted guitar that ties the whole song together.
When I was 18 and moved to New York City, David Bowie, Prince, and Madonna became the soundtrack to my life. I have vivid memories of listening to “Rebel, Rebel” in my headphones while strutting through the East Village, or sitting in my dorm room at night watching Madonna’s early music videos.
I had to include one of my favorites by Chet Baker. Once I was a senior in college, I began writing songs more prolifically than ever, and I would let the smoothness of Chet’s singing and trumpet playing guide me. I also included my favorite song of mine, “Luvline”, off my new record out this Spring. “Luvline” is my favorite track of mine because it sounds like my heart is singing, even when I hear it now, and that’s how I feel about the songs I chose for this playlist. I’m attracted to music that doesn’t hide from the truth, and these songs are a piece of the artist’s soul.
As a 90’s baby, I have always been a lover of the music that came from that generation. Anything from Norah Jones to Maroon 5 I love to listen to. My music was very influenced by the 90’s soul vibe, so naturally I also love it when new artists attempt to incorporate that in their music as well. This playlist is a mixture of songs that I listened to growing up along with songs that I have discovered over the last few years.

Rising Taiwanese act The Fur. enjoyed galavanting around SXSW 2019. We know this because they shared a brief glimpse of the experience with us. Check out the view from their lens below, then head over to take a listen to their debut album Town.
“Yes, we are so happy to play at SXSW.”
We got hair done at artist lounge and felt cool and ready to be on stage.
Edit.
Ren made a new friend.
Zero is at Walmart.
We saw someone wearing the same shirt as Ren’s, so took a secret photo with him. Nobody noticed.
It’s challenging to finish a stage setting within a short period of time at B.D. Riley’s. We yelled at each other in Mandarin and moved so quickly to get the change-over done as fast as possible. It’s so much fun to recall how we did the show.
We shopped at a toy store. How we wish to bring all the Rick and Morty toys back to Taiwan but we can’t.
