The summertime is enchanting. The sun is out, our schedules are insane but we are much more likely to enjoy it at this point in the year. It’s hot outside, but my friends are still finding the time and energy to play four outdoor softball. I, however, am sitting inside. I’m raking in the cool air, spritzing my plants, and watching new music videos like it’s no one’s business. Below, find some of my favorites from July so far. This is a playlist blending my R&B influences. It may not show very much in my own music but I’m a huge R&B fan. Most of the vocal melodies I hear in my head stem from R&B artists, (it doesn’t mean I can actually sing them though!). This is a mixture of old and modern R&B songs and shows how my nostalgia can go down a rabbit hole of music. Music has the ability to make you feel very many different ways, but I think creating and retaining memories is one of the most vital reason we listen to music.

The first of July brings with it a new-found hope. That day is the middle of the year, and marks the 6 month mark until 2020 hits us like a ton of bricks. “Heart beats” is a playlist full of sultry sounds. From funky tunes to instrumental jams – this playlist is all about the feels. Curated around my first single “Night In China”, this lineup has both an exciting yet sensual quality. The songs on here are cinematic and always bring me into a story, a mood, or a memory. I am constantly growing, learning, and discovering in my own music, but I always find myself coming back to this playlist. My sister and I add to it constantly so definitely continue to check it out – and let it take you place.

Alright. You all know what we do around here by now. Mid-month, we release genre-inclusive soundtrack features that are jam packed with new music videos specifically for your viewing pleasure. We know that people exist in the world that curate playlists to evoke a specific emotion, or to bring people back to a specific point in time.
These soundtrack pieces are not specific. These soundtrack pieces will jump from hip hop to indie rock to alternative to gospel and back again, and there’s not much we’re truly willing to do about it. Because, as the month’s cause would suggest, love is love. Music is music.
