spritzer, “little mystery”

spritzer, “little mystery”

Full of life and that 80’s vibe that fans can’t get enough of is newest single, “Little Mystery” from Matthew Meade’s newest project, Spritzer. With fans waiting on the edges of their seats in anticipation of his next full-length album Love. Lies. Decay—which comes out on April, 27—they are also just eating up this single. Although there is a familiarity in his catchy new sound, Spritzer adds a unique twist to the wide array of genres that they pull inspiration from. Ranging from indie rock to bossa nova, “Little Mysteries” has everything that the fans are both wanting and expecting.

When speaking of where inspiration for this song came from, Meade makes it clear that it was brought about by the blissful new relationship that has budded since the release of some of his older tracks. In his own words Meade considers it the “fun and shamelessly cheesy love song,” of the album. “Little Mystery,” is by far the most energetic and upbeat song on the upcoming album and has a nice spin on what fans might of expected out of this budding artist. Now that he has once again expanded his repertoire, we are all waiting to see what Matthew Meade has in store for the future of Spritzer.

parker longbough, “jack ryan”

Hailing from Anchorage, Alaska, Parker Longbough is back at it again with a brand new LP, Left on Tri, out this April. Parker Longbough (irl Matthew Witthoeft) has just put out a second album, Bridges to Nowhere/Delirium in Lo fi last June, and is keeping the ball rolling with Left on Tri.

Bridges to Nowhere/Delirium in Lo fi followed after over a decade hiatus since his debut LP, Commander Comatose. Thankfully, Longbough is not making us wait another ten years for a new album; on the contrary, it was less than a year.

Off his new album is the single “Jack Ryan”, a moving track that weaves instruments with mellow vocals. It is a combination of indie rock and slight folk/country influences that combines masterfully, creating a pleasant soundscape.

Keep your eyes and ears open for Left on Tri, out April 20. In the meantime, give “Jack Ryan” a listen!

rann, “renegade holiday”

rann, “renegade holiday”

Brooklyn-based indie quartet RANN just released the second track from their upcoming EP, Renegade HolidayRANN’s sound has been described as indie rock, dream pop, and psych punk which all seem fitting as their latest release, “Renegade Holiday,” has a variety of musical elements creating the perfect eclectic mix.
“Renegade Holiday,” the album’s title track, starts with a heavy drum rhythm that eases into an electronic synth instrumental. When the vocals appear, the song takes a dreamy, ethereal direction that is both calming and exciting at the same time. The song’s pounding rhythm and uplifting instrumental propel the song forward as the airy vocals create the perfect indie atmosphere. RANN’s “Renegade Holiday” cohesively blends instrumental and vocals to create an impeccably constructed track that makes the perfect edition to any playlist.

whitelight, “shiver”

whitelight, “shiver”

“Shiver” wastes no time getting to the point, and is the debut single from Whitelight, a duo from Birmingham. Impressive that this track is made by only 2 people. “Shiver” begins with a dusty gritty distortion then turns the corner into a verse that commands the spotlight with the singers’ wonderful accent. For fans of Royal Blood, Blue Oyster Cult, and Radiohead, Whitelight is best defined as true Indie Rock N Roll. The middle section of the song does have a neat echoing bluesy guitar solo, which pulls the distortion off the bass guitar giving a loungy feel. In its simplicity “Shiver” is a really catchy tune. No explosions or an intense build up its a straightforward track that is easy to swallow.

As I walked away from it, I found the chorus line still reverberating in my head so much so I had to give it another listen. Whitelight is proof that you really don’t need to over produce a song to make it great, you just need to write it well. When searching there isn’t too much information about WhiteLight. The alluring mystery and the availability of only 1 song has me definitely wanting more and I will be waiting to see what these guys are all about. Can’t wait to hear a full release and hear all that they have to offer.

storytown @ the bowery electric

storytown @ the bowery electric

Last night in New York City on a balmy 70 degree February evening Storytown played a stripped down acoustic set at Manhattan venue The Bowery Electric. The group who usually plays with a full four piece set up reduced the size without reducing the sound, performing an intimate set with only an acoustic guitar and acoustic bass. The set felt honest and personal. Guy Story – the guitarist and vocalist – led us into the songs with a memory, anecdote, or a frame of reference about how the music came to be.

The band have a unique sound in the modern Indie Rock climate. Picture David Byrne and Michael Stipe recording an album together with modern day world issues and modern production technology. If you can mentally piece that together you might have a good idea where Storytown’s sound begins. Storytown will be releasing an album later this year.

Keep an eye out via Facebook and Soundcloud.

danielle duval, “whenever you want it”

danielle duval, “whenever you want it”

Glam rocker Danielle Duval delivers again, this time with her new single “Whenever You Want It”. Danielle Duval is a Montreal born and Toronto-based indie rocker. Duval caught the attention of musical fans and the industry when she debuted her debut EP L’Etranger. Since that release, Danielle Duval has been gearing up to take the world by storm.

“Whenever You Want It” is a song about being fearless. The song tells the listener to be open and ready for whatever comes his or her way. “Whenever You Want It” recognizes love with no fear and encourages the listener to go for it and be unapologetic. The song is great, passionate, and full of lots of high energy.

“Whenever You Want It” is the lead single off Duval’s sophomore album Lose It which is available to own right now. Keep up with her here.

everett bird, “bucket of dark meat”

everett bird, “bucket of dark meat”

Fueled by their passion for music, Everett Bird – an emerging Montreal-based trio – is preparing to release their debut album this month. Through clever and catchy song writing, Everett Bird is able to convey relevant and relatable content with twangy hooks that rings similar to popular 90’s hits. Written in an old Montreal apartment, their first full length album was written with the help of band members Mikey Arcidiacono and Liam. Together, their music heavily reflects the popular sounds and vibes of their hometown and is deeply rooted in the indie rock genre.

Though this album is their first to release to the public since signing on with Royal Mountain Records, they have not been shy when it comes to performing around Canada. These three have performed in some of the hottest cities, such as Vancouver and Montreal, which has brought them a significant fan group eagerly awaiting the release of their album on February 23rd.

The hook to this band is found in their wide variety of incorporated styles. They have written music that dabbles in not only traditional indie rock, but also music with noticeable jazz, R&B and punk undertones. Their song, “Bucket of Dark Meat,” which is included in the album, has already been released to preview  – so grab some dark meat and tune into Everett Bird’s new release, “Bucket of Dark Meat!”

modern me, “dead to me”

modern me, “dead to me”

Noctis Magazine describes Modern Me as  …ushering in a fresh new era of indie rock. Noctis hit the nail on the head. Modern Me’s new track “Dead to Me” is a sharp, infectious, tongue-in-cheek epistle for the former lover that twisted your jaw to the point of “don’t text me anymore, I’m SO over it.”    The Southern California natives’ music video to the track opens with a couple in a café and lead singer looking upon them.  His contempt for the girl (ex) sets an absolute theme for the song and the video.

The video  moves to the band in a car unenthusiastically singing their lyrics with expressionless faces.  I love this song because it screams an I-don’t-care attitude while giving you courage to move on.  Modern Me is definitely worth checking out.  To keep with all things Modern Me visit http://www.modernmemusic.com .

former faces talk process, epic recording adventure

former faces talk process, epic recording adventure

After releasing his debut EP Swimming in Circles in June 2017, founder and vocalist Ryan Parmenter enlisted the help of David Lee (guitar), Abraham Kim (drums) and Brian Blake (bass) to create Former Faces, an incredible indie rock quartet based out of Silver Lake. We’re expecting them to take the world by storm – as if they aren’t already well on their way – with the release of their first full length album Foreign Nature this spring. Learn more about Former Faces in our exclusive, quick interview below!

Your debut album Foreign Nature will be coming out soon. What was the creative process like when it came to developing the album?

Typically, Ryan would bring a sketch to Brian who would help to focus and arrange it. Then the idea would be presented to Abe and David whose musicianship would transform it into a song. Some of the tunes came together quickly and organically, others were reshaped several times. Completing the album was a journey and we learned a lot about the value of collaboration, persistence, and patience along the way.

What was the inspiration behind your new single “Forc# Fi#lds”?

Inspiration for Forc# Fi#lds began as a desire to reconcile the past and open up to the future. It is a song about letting your guard down and being “wide awake” to new relationships, ideas, and endeavors.

What was the best part about developing your debut album?

Our epic recording adventure in Dear Valley, Utah. We packed two SUVs to the brim with gear, trekked up to the mountains just outside of Park City, and reconstructed Brian’s studio in the living room of a friend’s cabin. We tracked for the better part of 5 days. The view and the vibes were incredible. And no plug-in in the world can match the natural room reverb we captured! We’d been playing together as a four-piece for a few months prior to that trip. When we headed back to L.A., we were a band.

What were some challenges when it came to developing Foreign Nature?

With limitless sonic options at musicians’ and producers’ disposal these days, it can be very difficult to define one’s sound. We set out to create a record that was organic, highlighted musicianship, and was true to our live sound. Accomplishing that while still creating ear candy that sonically competes with our idols’ music was definitely challenging (the record is entirely self-produced, a feat in and of itself!), but we feel like we pulled it off and couldn’t be prouder of the results.

What is a typical day like for you all?

Busy. Musical. Sunny. Busy.

What are your plans after releasing your album? Any tours in the future?

No tours as of now but we will be performing all over L.A. and have our sights set on the festival circuit. Foreign Nature is meant to be performed outdoors for a meandering crowd of nature-loving music fans 🙂

Who would you say are your musical inspirations?

The Sun. The Sea. Clouds and colors. Mountains, Bowie, Mercury, Byrne, Harrison, Martsch, Parker, Tortoise, York, Beck, Granduciel, Air… Former Faces is planning on releasing their debut album Foreign Nature this Spring 2018. In the meantime, check out their new single from Foreign Nature “Forc# Fi#lds”:
