numb.er, “again”

numb.er, “again”

Coming from an artist that has a mixed bag of previous skills is the “sonic brainchild” of Los Angeles based photographer and visual artist Jeff Fribourg is Numb.er. This incredibly modern synth-rock outfit started from a growing passion for synthesizers and a desire to enter the music industry with a sound that is unlike anything we have ever heard before. With his incredible knack for structure and design, each track produced by this rather unorthodox artist is built to be both appealing to the ear and bring something completely new to the eclectic musical world.

Most recently, Fribourg has release an all new single entitled, “Again,” which is a perfect compliment to the tracks that he has released in the past. As he continually releases more and more music, it becomes clear that his understanding of his sound also increases, which results in even more impressive productions. Living outside of a specific genre, Numb.er embodies several different genres that inspire Fribourg to create something completely his own. While listening to “Again,” fans can enjoy elements inspired by punk, shoegaze, and post-punk. This freedom allows the music produced to be as natural and organic as possible, which showcases Fribourg’s wide rage of skills and talents. With so much in store for listeners around the world, we are all eager to watch and see just how far Fribourg will go.

mike llerena & the nerve, “crossfire”

mike llerena & the nerve, “crossfire”

Punk-folk band Mike Llerena & The Nerve, just released their first single “Crossfire.”  The band is from Gainesville, FL plan to release their debut LP “Old Haunts & New Horizons” on June 15th.  “Crossfire” is an enthusiastic rock song and has a 90’s rock feel.  “All my force, all my metal, all my reason and you still won’t settle,” rhymes Mike on lead vocals.  The song has the perfect amount of “punk angst” to it.  “Caught in the corner of a crossfire,” the chorus reinstates the tracks frustration.  Aside from the lyrics,  Brian Jones on bass and Scott Marshall on drums, really bring the rock to “Crossfire” in a cohesive manner.  While their LP won’t be out until June, you can hear the new track below.

tessa rae, “downtown”

Breaking into the new year with a new single that is sure to get her name heard by thousands of new listeners is LA based artist, Tessa Rae and her first single of the year entitled, “Downtown.” Not only does this song have a deep meaning to the artist herself, but it is sure to touch the hearts of fans around the world with its generally universal message. In her own words, Rae stated, “‘Downtown’ is a story about loss and dealing with its aftermath…I lost my best friend and someone who I felt was a soulmate to me in this world. The song is kind of an outward expression of the shoulda-woulda-coulda games we all play with ourselves when we lose someone we love. Initially In.Drip. was only going to produce the song, but the first version he sent me was with my verse followed by his hook and it honestly blew me away. I loved it and asked if he’d be on the track.”

Just as was indicated in the statement, this song was built to embody the pain that one feels when they experience loss — a sentiment that is felt within each individual, painstaking beat. As the song begins, ears are immediately met by Tessa Rae’s fantastic vocal skill meshed with a tenderness that is indescribable. Not only is this a talent that is hard to come by, but it also has a unique way of fluctuating with the instrumental component that stabilizes the track. Throughout the entire track, fans also have the pleasure of  experiencing the raw power behind the lyrics that hold so much meaning through the minimalistic soundscape. Without a doubt, there is much in store in the coming years for this incredibly talented young artist.

brandyn burnette, “run”

brandyn burnette, “run”

Boca Raton, Florida native Brandyn Burnette, just released his latest single “Run”, inspired by Burnette’s journey as an artist and a person.  The song is melodic, funky and jazzy.  “Drinking too much coffee- didn’t get my education, but no that didn’t stop me,” sings Brandyn on his road to success.  “Run” was inspired by Burnette’s decision to leave a full ride scholarship to pursue his dream of creating music.  The song is very inspirational and has a great message for ambitious youth. My favorite line is “When that moment comes, will you grab it by the horns and run?”  While Brandyn knew that he may not “get his education,” that did not stop him from following his passion.  This is why “Run” is so powerful and uplifting.

On his journey, Burnette says,

Each chapter has helped me reach the next level of my emotional and artistic development. I would take the qualities and experiences I loved about a certain place or time with me, leave others behind that didn’t fit, and start over as a newer, better version of myself, finding my own lane among those influences.

jealous of the birds, “plastic skeleton”

jealous of the birds, “plastic skeleton”

In preparation for the release of her forthcoming EP, Naomi Hamilton, who uses the moniker of Jealous of the Birds on stage, has just released her latest single, “Plastic Skeleton.” Unlike most of the other music that has been produced and released in the past, this album is the perfect balance of vocal and instrumental components that are expertly woven together. To open this single, fans have the ability to enjoy the psychedelic beats played out by the guitar and drums. Before long, the hypnotizing soundscape is joined by mischievous vocals that  have a natural grit that matches the genre of music perfectly and is neither too over or underwhelming.

As each note passes, the tempo seems to slowly increase along with the building intensity that builds and grows until it reaches a breaking point which is then followed by an artistic ending that seems to push the listener over the edge of suspense. With having the climax so close to the end, Hamilton is able to hold the attention of her fans until the very last breath. Without a doubt, there is a particular kind of artistry that is both unique and clever and the artist’s end. Now that this single has been released, the up coming release of The Moths Of What I Want Will Eat Me In My Sleep is sure to be a smash hit for this growing artist.

beard bates, “lion sheep birds”

beard bates, “lion sheep birds”

Alternative rock band Beard Bates just released their latest single “Lion Sheep Birds.”  The one man show is versatile as a singer, songwriter, producer, visual artist, designer, and author.  Like the title, the song is very unique.  It begins with a slow, eerie intro, creeping up on you until pleading vocals.  A lovesick song, “Lion Sheep Birds” weaves a story of remorse, regret, and memories.  “If I could go back, you know I would/I’d come back and save you from the horrible sting.”

Teetering between alternative rock and folk the track remains special in its own way and is inspired by Beard’s near death experience. “I almost died while scaling the wall of the Bronson Canyon cliffs in Los Angeles. I shouldn’t have been scaling loose rock walls in cowboy boots, but I was perturbed and in a rebellious state of mind,” Bates tells Buzzbands.La.

ward, “soothe the soul”

ward, “soothe the soul”

“Soothe The Soul” is the latest single by alternative-rock Ward.  “Soothe The Soul” is the artist’s second single, following the lovely “Crush.”  “Soothe The Soul” is personal for Ward as he shares his journey and goals as an artist on the track.  “Soothe The Soul,” is in fact soothing and expresses the hope and search for personal freedom  “I felt loose…like I felt then,” ponders Ward.  For me the most powerful lyrics are “I’ve been living my life as some other guy, I’ve been living my days as somebody’s son…whose soul knows better.”  “Soothe The Soul” came into the works when Ward realized he didn’t like the life he was living.  As a tech executive in New York, Ward quit his job and moved to Los Angeles to pursue the life he wanted- the life of an artist and musician.
