Thursday took the stage 5th on Friday at the Uptown Theater, another incredible punk/emo act that we all know and love on the Twenty Years of Tears tour. Playing directly after Anberlin and before Hawthorne Heights, this band truly threw their energy into the entire performance, per usual.

We got up close and personal for an evening we just absolutely cannot believe happened.

episode #2: a conversation with talker

A few weeks ago, we had the distinct pleasure of sitting down to chat with Talker while she was revving up for the release of her debut EP Horror Films. We also got to speak about energy healing, life in Los Angeles, growing up in the same metropolitan area, and other fun thoughts! Since then, Horror Films has made its debut as well, so you’ll want to check that out. (But only after you listen to our podcast.)

kismit, “look no further”

kismit, “look no further”

Los Angeles-based art pop duo KiSMiT have really taken things to a slow, playful, soulful place with new track “Look No Further”. Once again perfectly displaying Barnette’s vocal range and incredible emotional depth, “Look No Further” is truly everything we need to believe in love again.

Expands KiSMiT on the track:

No human escapes desire and its open endlessness. “Look No Further” is about trusting that there is an infinite well of love within one relationship. As we come to our 6 years of loving one another, the subtle has only become more sublime, the depths we’ve experienced together have been beyond what we could have imagined, like a fine wine only getting better with time.

With the state of the world and all of the violence and horror we are constantly reminded of, we just want to put more love out there.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we’ve got your exclusive premiere right here.

balcony, “you’re so cool”

balcony, “you’re so cool”

We’ve been sifting through new music, trying to find a smooth, mid-tempo jam that puts us in a good mood. So lucky us, to have stumbled upon Balcony‘s new track “You’re So Cool”. Featuring the additional vocal stylings of Liv Dawson in addition to the talent of the band (comprised of Jamie Ward, Jack Bennett, David Royce, and Johno Donnachie), the track is invigorating in a puppy love kind of way, the instrumentals produced to perfection, winding this track somewhere between a slow jam and a dance track. Regardless, we’re looking forward to more from Balcony, and perhaps another collaboration in the future if we’re lucky enough?

ruby velle & the soulphonics, “respect & resist”

ruby velle & the soulphonics, “respect & resist”

I wanted to share a few of the artist and more specifically the songs that shaped my writing style from a very young age. These artists all had something to say with the lyrics of their soulful songs, and by my teens I was singing back these lyrics before I truly knew what they meant. These freedom fighting songs paved the way to speak truths to the masses…and realize the concept of “if one person isn’t free, none of us are free.” Artists are needed at this time to respect the roots of activist music, in all it’s form, and to keep the soul in resistance.
