New Orleans-based indie rock quintet Biglemoi – expertly comprised of George Elizondo, Violeta del Rio del Castillo, Matthew Bigelow, Jeremy Marx, and Jonathan Arceneaux – croon their way into your souls with their single “Permanent Vacation”. Today, they add a music video for that track to the world, and we couldn’t be more smitten. As they each enter the frame, there is a sense of excitement. We soon realize we will be getting a simple, beautifully-shot glimpse at their live performance tactics, and immediately we feel like we have been transported to our backyard with close friends.

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin Rae performed at New York City’s Rough Trade on June 19th, opening for Dylan LeBlanc. Rae recently released an EP of demos off last year’s record, Putting On Airs. In front of an audience still filing in and getting drinks, Rae was unmoved, focusing on her performance and her connection to those already in the crowd. Her set was poignant, speaking of pain and empathy, and the room swelled larger with each subsequent song. By the end, she held the audience in her hand, and thunderous applause broke out.

On June 29th, one of the most extraordinary voices in up-and-coming pop music visited the patio at Riot Room in Westport. Whoa Dakota (Jesse Ott) entertained in some of the sweatiest weather, the lighting and fan giving the tone a Beyonce effect, while the crowd basked in the glow. Photos below!

On Tuesday, July 2nd, Older Brother held its debut public performance at The Rino in Kansas City, with support from Ritt Momney and Sex Ed. The trio – comprised of siblings Jake, Jordan, and Brooke – absolutely stunned with their vocal talents. The music was simple, beautifully composed, and the room was so silent it almost felt too intimate for onlookers. Highlights below.

“Heart beats” is a playlist full of sultry sounds. From funky tunes to instrumental jams – this playlist is all about the feels. Curated around my first single “Night In China”, this lineup has both an exciting yet sensual quality. The songs on here are cinematic and always bring me into a story, a mood, or a memory. I am constantly growing, learning, and discovering in my own music, but I always find myself coming back to this playlist. On Tuesday, July 2nd, Salt Lake City’s up-and-coming indie rock extraordinaire Ritt Momney made an appearance at The Rino in North Kansas City. Sandwiched between two incredible local acts – Sex Ed and Older Brother – Ritt Momney set a tone for excellence. Near the end, Rutter’s girlfriend joined the band on stage to sing, a touching experience as for the majority of the year they are separated because of her studies in another state.

I’ve never witnessed a man with such notoriety sip a beer so calmly and pointedly on stage as he stares out at individual faces in the crowd. At least, you get the sense that Matt Berninger is putting a lot of thought into those glances, though perhaps he just has an important tactic of his stage performance down after so many years entertaining. Either way, The National‘s performance at Bonnaroo was enigmatic. Highlights below.

Get your “Add to Playlist” button ready: The newest summer dance anthem is found in
HighJak’s latest single “Mystical”. Thumping club beats, a heart-stopping EDM bass drop, and a chorus riddled with synth-pop fuse to form
HighJak’s tale of finding love on the dance floor.
The first few bars of “Mystical” start out modestly, with only a curt, electrifying keyboard to signal for more. The track gains traction quickly, layering in a sharp clapping beat. HighJak’s smooth, inviting vocals echo across each other, soulful harmonies repeating key phrases, all aptly filling the space like reverb in a dance hall.
Channeling his inner EDM DJ, HighJak leads us into the chorus with a classic buildup drawn from some older house favorites, not unlike David Guetta. The succeeding thud of the drum machine fill fits so naturally you might miss it the first time, as track glides seamlessly into its peak, launching into the full soundscape of the last-night-on-Earth party scene.
Thematically, this song differs from HighJak’s other work, much of which channels Post Malone and Migos and is closer to rap or hip hop. While trap is in his repertoire, HighJak nails this party favorite – here’s hoping for more like it to come.

Los Angeles-based Meg Myers brings her own colorful spirit to this cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” The original version is known for its major success in 1985 and a music video that featured a contemporary dance routine performed by Bush herself. On the other hand, Myers’ version showcases the artistic talents of 2,130 children, and the artwork paired with her distinctly inimitable vocals creates quite an enchanting combination. “Running Up That Hill” is a song that means a lot to many people and Kate Bush is beloved in the world of music. But, in spite of that pressure, Myers manages to stay true to the original as well as produce her own creative vision. It is clear that this song is near and dear to Myers as well, and she embraces that completely.
The video itself is a massive creative feat – it took a chance on over two thousand children to be able to convey the story that the song is trying to tell. The vibrant imagery of a winged Myers flying through space stands out in a way that really showcases childlike wonder and imagination. The amount of work put into the video shows how a fully formed concept can evolve into one of the most beautiful music videos that I have seen in a long time.
