sxsw 2017: a look back in time

sxsw 2017: a look back in time

In March of 2017, we were in a different place. Financially, emotionally, career-wise… but the biggest difference? We were covering SXSW as official press (for a different publication). Imperfect Fifth has thrived on what we learned within that community, learning tenfold about the industry in one week over what we had in the previous five years combined working within it. Because we are all feeling a sense of lack of community right now — and almost none of us are out enjoying ourselves in the streets of Austin — I wanted to share some video interviews from that first, fated SXSW. You know, when social distancing didn’t exist and we all did yoga in bars together.

no prayers for november | november 2019

Hey ladies and gents and everything in between! It’s time to unleash the best new music video releases of November 2019, slowly but surely. We wanted to get these out a little earlier than usual because — though this time of year is usually the slow down season in the music industry — people are revving up their game and releasing far more material than we could have ever hoped for at this juncture in time. So we’re cherry picking our favorites and adding them here every single day. Check back throughout the month for more visuals you will absolutely adore!

Any particular favorite new video releases you think we should add to our roundup? Comment on Facebook and we’ll check it out!

k.flay @ bonnaroo 2019

K.Flay‘s energy was insane on Day 2 of Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival last week in Manchester, TN. Though her look a stark contrast from last time we got to see her live — her departure from an all black ensemble into simple, bright colored shorts and a t-shirt fit the heat of the outdoor stage a little better — her flare for the dramatic and fun were almost more palpable than before. Check out some highlights below!

Keep up with K.Flay here.

mallrat + basenji, “nobody’s home”

mallrat + basenji, “nobody’s home”

Australian pop musician Mallrat has created yet another catchy, beautiful, melancholic track for our ears to enjoy, this time with Basenji in latest track “Nobody’s Home”. The 20 year old has taken it up a notch with the new visual to accompany the song, and it’s quite a vibrant and enjoyable way to experience the song. Theatrical, a feeling of longing ever-present, this video will make you evaluate your own love life. We’re almost certain of that.

Keep up with Mallrat here.

Time to enjoy some great new music videos from Chromeo, Roosevelt, Mae Muller, The Faded North, and more!

kasbo @ the truman

kasbo @ the truman

The day after Thanksgiving was pretty thrilling, as it saw Swedish producer Kasbo and his cohorts entering city limits to play The Truman. We were thrilled by the lineup – which included Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Longer Days – as the night dissolved into a chaotic blur shortly after he took the stage. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Keep up with Kasbo here.
