Storm Conductor is set for release on 4/20. This is the third offering from Youth in a Roman Field. The mastermind behind this project is singer/violinist Claire Wellin with contributions coming from Tiffany Topol, Scott Stangland, Jamie Mohamdein, Cassidy Stirtz, and Katrina Lenk. Some of the tracks have the ability to whisk you away to the hills of rolling green in Ireland like a bar of Irish Spring, making it surprising that Youth in a Roman Field hail from New York.
The album opens up as if an orchestra was warming up before the curtains are drawn. As the melody becomes apparent it’s both adventurous and somewhat melancholic. A gentle operatic influenced woman’s voice calls out beautifully with a few overdubbed layers of alternate pitches that provide great harmony and thicken the sound into full spectrum stereo. “Your hand in mine”, is a short and sweet way to bring a listener in.
Sounding like a veteran jazz singer, Claire’s voice is most definitely the focal point, doing things most instruments just can’t. While there is a lack of a full on drum kit there isn’t a shortage of percussive additives. I’m not talking samples, I’m talking hand claps, unconventional tribal-like drums, and I even swore I heard a finger cymbal. The strings definitely posses a Celtic quality, yet sometimes can be morbidly curious.
The album’s title track “Storm Conductor” pulls away from the direction of the majority of the album. Vocals, strings, unconventional percussion, yes. The overall mood begins with a sick kind of twist. Similar to the way that Stephen King utilizes happy retro songs during a murder scene. There is something in the way she sings “It was an accident” that makes you second guess the innocent.
Finishing out the album is, “When the city goes quiet,” an acapella song with a gentle choir of group backing vocals. Youth in a Roman Field is the kind of music you want to submerge and wrap yourself in. Gentle with the occasional eyebrow lifting quirk.

Looking for something a little off-kilter, yet still pleasing? We’ve got just the song for you. Dusted has just dropped his new track, “Dead Eyes”, appearing on his sophomore album, Blackout Summer, which was just released on April 6. Dusted is the musical moniker of Toronto’s Brian Borcherdt, who was a founding quarter of 2000’s four-piece Holy Fuck and has operated his solo project under Dusted since 2012. Accompanied by his wife, Anna Edwards, and Loel Campbell, among others, for live shows, Borcherdt brings an entirely different sound than his previous projects with Dusted.
With a hazy and quirky pop sound, Dusted creates a mellow soundscape reminiscent of Wilderado. Don’t be fooled by the easy-going exterior of this song; Borcherdt still manages to back a punch in this gentle tune. Pairing skillful guitar solos with consistent percussion makes for a solid track. Give “Dead Eyes” a listen today!

The musical duo from Australia China Roses have released their new single “Piedaterres”. From the title, the term ‘piedaterres’ is a French term that translates into the phrase “from a small highway that is past city limits.” The song is about having no limits in life. “Piedaterres” is all about surrounding yourself with people and energies that believe in you and your dreams. The song also talks about dealing with success in the most humble way and accepting who got you to where you are.
“Piedaterres” is a creative song about appreciating who got you to where you are. The song is a great electronic pop beat mixed with astounding vocals.

Dom Fricot just released a new video for “Echoes”, which follows two young boys running through the city. Shot in the streets of Nepal, the two friends spend the day exploring the city by scaling walls, running on roofs, exploring the city and joking with each other. The video for “Echoes” is almost a mini feature film, as subtitles are used while Dom’s voice echoes in the background. Dom Fricot even incorporates a political narrative about Pakistan by the end of the video. With stunning visuals and peaceful vocals by Fricot, “Echoes” makes out to be a beautiful track and a tasteful video.

Not only is this psychedelic single being adopted and adored by fans throughout the country, but it is a perfect complimentary follow-up to their last release in March, “U + Me Will Never Die.” Of course, along with all of the skills and aptitudes that they have showcased within all of their other tracks, this new release has a particular funk vibe that is sure to get listeners moving. While this song is exciting and has a killer beat, it also carries with is a story that is being told from the prospective of the performing dynamic duo. Within the lyrics, these two brothers tell the tale of working hard to ear a living, but at the same time produce their own out-of-the-box art.
