In Years, Sarah Shook shows off her strong vocal delivery. Shook’s powerful vocals match the lyrics that are from her songwriting.
In “Heartache in Hell” Shook’s vocals display the sense of hurt that reflect the emotion of the lyrics in the song. The song has a country tone to it along with “The Bottle Never Lets Me Down”. “The Bottle Never Lets Me Down” shows submerging your emotions in alcohol.

Luke Burr found his love of music through his father’s old soul records. Burr was inspired by several R&B artists which later encouraged him to begin singing and playing the piano. From there, the soul singer began to make his mark in music. This time, he enthralls with his new single “Lights On”.
The track is full of R&B and soulful sounds, which encapsulate Burr’s signature sound. Writing inspirational songs that encourage you while leaving you feeling empowered at the same time, singer-songwriter Somaya writes music that inspires others. Somaya, who released her debut album “Stand Up” last June is on the rise in music. Full of emotion and powerful lyrics, the young singer makes her mark in music by not only helping herself but others through her lyrics. We caught up with Somaya recently to talk about “Stand Up” and what is next for her in music.
Check out what she has to say below!
The meaning behind “Stand Up” is powerful, what exactly inspired you to create that song?
Sexual assault is an issue that has, unfortunately, affected a lot of people in my life, and I was frustrated with how little support survivors receive. Knowing how powerful music can be, I decided to write “Stand Up” to try and raise awareness on the issue, and to encourage others to use their voice as well.
Who are some of your musical inspirations?
I look up to Halsey and Tove Lo for their production style and for the rawness in their music. I also look up to the lyricism of more stripped back artists like Hozier and Mumford and Sons.
What advice would you give people that want to get into music?
Don’t let comparison get in the way of you achieving your goals.
Your album is named after your song “Stand Up”, what was the whole creative process like for the album?
It was really cool! “Stand Up” is my debut album, so a large part of the process was new territory for me. I’ve been writing songs since I was 11, so to be able to record my songs with a producer as amazing as Matt Bronleewe was truly incredible.
Your song “Stand Up” is garnering a lot of attention, what it is like seeing that people love your song?
It’s unreal. Like I said, I’ve been writing songs since I was 11, and for years most of those songs didn’t go beyond the ears of my family and close friends, so to receive such a positive response from so many people, especially on a song I wrote about sexual assault, feels so rewarding.
Is there anything music wise that we can expect from you in the near future?
I’m always writing new music, so look out on my social media (@somayamusic) for updates!
What is your favorite thing about making music?
Being able to express myself and be completely honest in my lyrics feels really freeing. And having people tell me that they relate to those lyrics makes it even better.
Forest Ray’s “Laughing” takes a glimpse into what the band is actually about, psychedelic rock with a mix of a country sound. Laughing sounds like a song straight out of the 60s and 70s with a new touch to it.
“Laughing” is filled with a psychedelic rock sound mixed with country with minimum words. The song is just in time with the spring/summer season as it sounds like the perfect song to take a spring/summer ride to. The song is full of groves and tunes that are guaranteed to give you a vintage feel. The song is relaxing, leaving you wanting more.
Lines has released their new video for their song “You”. The music video for “You” consists of great visuals that capture the songs essence. In the video , two lovers are seen being physical and there is a bit of knife play involved.
“You” shows the love between two lovers. Sometimes love can be addictive almost as if it is something you constantly need in your life if you have ever felt it. The lovers in the music video display their love for one another in a different way. The song is a great representation of a dark love connection and how unhealthy relationships can be. The video shows how toxic your relationship can be no matter how much you are in love.
Lines capture the meaning behind their song perfectly with their video. The video is well put together and makes you anxious for the next video from Lines.
Spelles is back with her second EP titled Skeleton Coast, which consists of five songs that define who Spelles is as an artist. The lead single from the album is titled “Dead in the Water”, which is a song with immense emotion and power. It has a pop vibe with a dark sound to it, showing that there is power that lives inside of us that we sometimes cannot recognize.
A favorite from the EP is “Light Me on Fire”, which captures Spelles’ powerful vocals as an artist and shows why she is destined to live out her musical dreams. The song is about staying to support someone instead of leaving them.
Listening to Spelles’ new EP is an absolute joy. After listening to her EP, the anticipation to see where she grows as an artist is exciting.
