tanners, “holy water”

tanners, “holy water”

Tanners just released her debut single “Holy Water.”  The New York based songwriter/producer has already engineered several artists’ records and is taking music into her own hand with “Holy Water, which resides in the world of synth psych-pop.  With the help of Tanners’ sweet voice, “Holy Water” exudes sensuality.  She pulls you in with lyrics like “I can be your Jesus if you let me” and “Come with me and swim into my daydream.”

“Holy Water” is inspired by Tanners’ childhood fondness for the beach.  It revolves around of being born again by water in the purest form.  Tanners comments on the track: “It’s a thank you song to the ocean for teaching me to embrace vulnerability.”

chances, “fire to go”

chances, “fire to go”

Chances just released their latest and fourth single, “Fire To Go” which will be released on their debut album Traveler, out April 27th. “Fire To Go” is a post break-up track, however you won’t find any self loathing on this track. The track starts off with sounds of a funky electronic keyboard and transitions in the soothing vocals of Chances. Chances tackles the breakdown of a relationship by saying “You watch the uncertain waters below, the wind sweeping across the horizon, the sky is a wild mess of greys and blues. You feel like you’ve been here before, standing on this very same edge, and yet you know it is a foreign territory. You have no idea how this will go, or where you’ll end up.” Chances is not speaking on the uncertainty of themselves, they are speaking of the uncertainty of the other person. With “Fire To Go,” Chances reclaims the power, which I think is great as this song is applicable to many situations. Be sure to look out for Chances debut album here.

May 8th – This Ain’t Hollywood, Hamilton (with The Ferns and Calcedon)

fukc, “time to kill”

fukc, “time to kill”

Lemuel Dufez has so far had a relatively strong music career with several fun projects, but after leaving Point Point, Dufez (oka DEVOTED) desired something slightly more challenging. Luckily, he and lifetime acquaintance (vocalist) Billionaire reunited and decided to team up with the new project name FUKC (French-UK-Connection).

FUKC boasts an electronic rock sound that brings a new feel to rock. The band recently released their new single “Time to Kill”, which is a phenomenal track down to the song’s catchy chorus. FUKC puts the duo’s energy on full display at all times, while they prove what they have to take their music to the next level.

michael brondstetter invites you to “cherish time”

Californian singer-songwriter Michael Brondstetter has just released a brand new track, “Cherish Time,” off his upcoming EP Change Your Mind, out on April 27. Change Your Mind follows Brondstetter’s debut 2017 EP, Iron Mountain. His new single, “Cherish Time” brings the listener back into his Americana-folk-rock soundscape. Woven across heartfelt vocals and instrumentation, the track sums up its title perfectly. Filled with nostalgia and familiarity, “Cherish Time” will fill your heart and soul with good things.

Says Brondstetter of his new track,

I wrote “Cherish Time” at a time in my life when there was a whole lot of change going on. I just looked around at things a thought to myself, enjoy this moment because it won’t come back around again. Recording the song was like walking into a whole new world for me. Tom Freund really brought a lot to the table in his playing and production concepts. Working with Chris and Eleanor was a true blessing. They are so talented and inspiring. Having their participation and input, was invaluable. Everyone did a magnificent job getting to the songs soul.

joshua barnhart, “blue eyes”

joshua barnhart, “blue eyes”

Imperfect Fifth is here to give you an exclusive first listen of Joshua Barnhart’s brand new single, “Blue Eyes”, a folk-rock track that will blow you away with its gentle yet fulfilling sound. The Oakland, CA based artist has been a member of several bands, including Port O’Brien, Release the Sunbird, Two Sheds, and Sparrows Gate, but since 2016, has been a solo artist. Following his 2016 debut solo record, Turn Out The Light, Barnhart dropped “Dance With Me” last fall, and is back at it again today with “Blue Eyes”.

Barnhart brings vocals, acoustic/electric guitar and drums to the track himself, accompanied by Paul Dutton on vocals, electric guitar and bass, Taylor Belmore’s vocals, Joel Tolbert on piano, Robe Barnhart on cello and string arrangements, and Terry Glenny playing violin. Says Barnhart:

Perhaps most significantly, is that my dad, Robe Barnhart (who has arranged strings for Crosby Stills and Nash, and The Beach Boys, among many others), wrote the string arrangements and played cello on the song. The last time we worked together in this serious of a manner was when he arranged the string parts and played cello for Port O’Brien’s album, All We Could Do Was Sing, which came out almost exactly ten years ago.

A nostalgic track, “Blue Eyes” brings the listener into a carefree, 70’s-esque soundscape, filled with carefully composed instrumentals. Barnhart has an obvious grasp on capturing an idea within a track and using a song as the canvas for a musical landscape. Give “Blue Eyes” a listen today!

added color, mr. industry

added color, mr. industry

Brazilian/American rock band Added Color are excited to release their latest EP Mr. Industry. The Brooklyn-based band has played has played 200 shows since 2014, touring in over 20 states and even internationally in Canada, Morocco, and Brazil. They have even played in festivals such as Porao do Roc in Brazil. With budding success, we’re thrilled to share the follow-up to their Psycho EP with you.

Mr. Industry covers an intense and diverse side of the band’s sound— the angst is in the lyrics and it is evident that this is rock that you can scream or even relax to. The song “My Industry” discusses the darker side music/entertainment industry in a very honest light. “Mr. Industry” discusses how many followers you have, what you can do to sell a band or a product and how is it that I can only live on ten dollars a day? “Mr. Industry” rightfully states “I call bullshit.” “Same Place” is a little different in the fact that it dials back the vibe to a more pyschedlic state. “I had a dream, in a familiar place but all the people that I thought I knew had unfamiliar faces,” sings the band. Added Color is able to keep a balance between chill/funky and “frustrated” rock with tracks that vary such as “Mr. Industry” and “Same Place.”

matthew young, “fix me up”

matthew young, “fix me up”

Since his debut in his home country, New Zealand, budding artist Matthew Young has been on the rise and has continued to produce music that captivates and entertains his fans throughout the world. Most recently, he released a smooth new addition to his rather extensive musical lexicon entitled, “Fix Me Up”.  Not only does this single have everything that fans have come to expect from such a young talent, but he supersedes expectations with his infections rhythm and repetition. Adding to his credibility, Young has come to be marked as “Lorde-approved.” This is a huge indicator that Young has a place for himself in the music community.

“Fix Me Up” is a radically innovative use of synth loops and warm toned vocals that seem to ebb and flow with the rhythm of the music. With all of this skill and talent, fans have come to look forward to any new releases from this artist and, judging from the news that Young’s team has recently released, they are not going to be disappointed. In fact, this last single is precursor to an EP that is scheduled to drop later this year. Young has proven himself over and over again with his talent and skill that speak for themselves–it is clear that there is no stopping this artist from achieving exactly what he set out to reach.

Keep an eye out for Matthew’s forthcoming EP Fruit and more news here.
