michelle lewis, “how”

michelle lewis, “how”

Los Angeles-based folk singer/songwriter Michelle Lewis might be revving up to release her full length All That’s Left on October 19th, but while we’re waiting around for that big day (2 more weeks!), we’ve got the exclusive premiere of her new track “How” to share with you. A slowly layering song, gorgeous piano operates as the spine to it all, branches of sound coming off of it and blending in with Lewis’ celestial sounding, twang-tinged vocals. A delicate reaction to a very introspective question, Michelle Lewis takes us on a journey with “How” that will leave us questioning our own paths in life as well.

Explains Lewis of the track, “‘How ended up being one of my favorite tracks on the album. Vocally, it’s a different kind of song than I’ve done before. I had written it on electric guitar, but knew I wanted piano to be the lead instrument. I’m really happy about how it all came together in the recording.”

San Jose-based indie pop/electronica singer/songwriter Anja Kotar has a new music video for her enticing single “Coltrane”, and we’re lucky enough to be hosting the exclusive premiere. Her soulful, robust vocals dance effortlessly across a soundscape you can’t help but move to when you hear it. Kotar displays her playful side while she sings into the mirror while applying makeup. She also splashes around in a tub, dances in sandals, and hangs out around her home, seen through rose-colored glasses.

Los Angeles-based indie soul musician Tatiana Woods boasts a sound all her own, riddled with gorgeous, theatrical quirks. Her incredible vocals are captivating as they tell us story after story, a fact that we find to be no different with the release of her new single “Darling”.

Says Woods of the song:

“Darling” embodies the Goddess in each of us. She characterizes the song as “perfection-in the sun sparkling in the ocean, the rhythm of the push and pull of the waves, and the cool breeze whispering by. Step into this world, free of fear and worry and open yourself up to every possibility. I couldn’t be more ecstatic to share this single with everyone. My producer Scorz and I put a lot of sweat and tears into making this a really great track! Every time we worked on this song in the studio, I left in a fantastic mood and was flying high. This song just emanates positivity, confidence, and good vibes and I want to share those vibes!!

Blessed enough to host the exclusive premiere, we may have set this song on repeat to bring a more buoyant attitude to the office today. So – while you prep for your weekend shenanigans and to bask in the last glorious days of summer – consider Tatiana Woods as your soundtrack.

jon reynolds & the aches, “tomorrow’s news”

Nashville-based indie rock outfit Jon Reynolds & The Aches releases a new track this week called “Tomorrow’s News”, and we’ve got your exclusive premiere. The second single in their three track lead up to their EP in early 2019, “Tomorrow’s News” exists at a moderate clip, really drawing the listener in to its country vibes. At first listen, hints of The Eagles are palpable. Admits Reynolds of the meaning behind the track:

After the November 2016 elections wrapped up, I felt a deep need and responsibility to contribute what I could to what I can only describe as a cultural civil war. On an even more personal level, I promised myself 4 years ago, when I first moved to Nashville, that I would make music I believed in: music that I was passionate about personally. There are few things more motivating than seeing a man who openly discussed sexual assault get elected president of the United States. I wake up feeling very anxious about the next nonsensical statement or action I’m going to read in my morning news- I put that feeling into this song.

Allow yourself to get enveloped in a beautiful expression of frustration with our current world. This song is a beautiful conversation starter, and the exact sound you need on an early autumn evening.
