Dance Gavin Dance has just released their new track, “Son of Robot”, the second single from their upcoming record, Artificial Selection. The Sacramento based quintet is made up of drummer Matt Mingus, bassist Tim Feerick, guitarist/vocalist Will Swan, and vocalists Tilian Pearson and Jon Mess. The rock band has now dropped “Son of Robot”, a second taste of what’s to come, following the release of “Midnight Crusade”.
“Son of Robot” is an explosive track, showcasing Pearson and Mess’ powerful vocals, as well as the strong synchronization of the band. With a thoroughly punk chorus of “How could we forget about you?”, “Son of Robot” is a sure sign that Dance Gavin Dance has a great album in store for their fans.
Watch for Artificial Selection, to be released June 8 via Rise Records.

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Joel Levi has just dropped his self-titled album. Honest and down to earth, Joel Levi explores challenges and difficulties of life on an Americana/indie-folk soundscape.
Joel Levi:
1. “Middle of Everything” starts off the record on an upbeat note, setting the indie-folk tone of the album. Showcasing Levi’s great vocals, this first track sets the stage for the rest of the album.
2. “Will We Ever Change?” is up next, starting off with a smooth, angstier sound. As the title suggests, this track explores the fear of being stuck as you are.
3. “Honest Mistake” carries the listener into a more Americana sound, reminiscent of Springsteen. Featuring a great guitar solo towards the second half the song, the lyrics “I don’t wanna bring you down” echo throughout the track.
4. “Easy to Be Alone” is a more laid back folk song that moves along an emotional soundscape, encouraging the listener to hold onto their loved ones and fight for them.
5. “Harder Times” emphasizes perseverance, even through adversity. Well-placed guitar rounds out the track into a solid song.
6. “The Garden” brings the listener into a simple but touching melody, filled with well-constructed metaphors.
7. “All My Friends” changes it up, instantly upbeat and quickly moving into a feel-good chorus that will make any listener appreciative for the important friends in their life.
8. “Sweet Melinda” comes next, a beautiful love song that starts off with some acoustic guitar. An instant classic, “Sweet Melinda” encompasses what a romantic folk song should sound like.
9. “Blind Men Still Dream” is a painfully honest track that explores the challenges we face, and the support that we always can depend on.
10. “Hold On Me” closes out Joel Levi on a simple but touching note with a love song. “Hold On Me” shows just one of Levi’s many musical aspects and gently brings the record to an end.

Rockin’ and rollin’, Language is back at it with a brand new single titled “Game Piece”. Language is made up of guitarist/vocalist Omar Afzaal, bassist/vocalist Charles Sloan and drummer Wes Black. The Brooklyn-based trio has self-released two EPs, and will drop their first EP Plymouth on May 18th via Good Eye Records. Their new single “Game Piece” will appear on Plymouth, and offers a first glance into the upcoming EP. Thoroughly fun and unapologetic, “Game Piece” includes a killer guitar solo and great vocals. It is evident through the instrumentation of the track that Language knows how to make every aspect of a song work together.
Bassist Charles Sloan says:
I started with of a couple ideas: a middle school project where I had to decide what I would take with me on a spaceship to a new world, and the story of Aeneas, one of the mythical founders of Rome, who took his father, statues of his gods, and his son and lead them out of a burning Troy. It’s all reduced to a few shouted phrases, which is where the desperation and irrationality enter.

RF Shannon just released their latest single “Tooth Ache”, which is off of their latest album, Trickster Blues, due out May 5th. “Tooth Ache” pays tribute to all things alternative-indie, but also throws in a western vibe. The intro gives us that western sound with an acoustic guitar, slow drums, and sounds of a classic piano. “I take it slow right in the back road,” hums the band.
Aside from the amazing instrumentals, the vocals are haunting and will capture you. My favorite thing about “Tooth Ache,” is its ability to put a new twist on a classic rock sound. Shane Renfro, of the band says, “I tend to feel like all is right in the world when I’m slowly driving down old country roads with the windows down, so this song is kind of an ode to that vibe. I wanted to write a good backroad song.” A vibe we have all felt, RF Shannon encompasses the feeling on “Tooth Ache.”

Rising above the status quo that has gripped the rock genre for some years now is Parker Moore, who has recently separated himself from Bay-area based rock group Catholic Radio and has begun to spin a new story all for himself. In recent months, he released a wildly popular debut solo album, Alterations and Repais, but even more current is his new single, “How Long.” Not only has this been a huge breakthrough for Moore himself, but it is also a wonderfully composed track that is skillfully layered with captivating soundscapes and gripping, guitar driven melodies. Complimented by his crooner vocal talent, the melodic undertones of the instrumentals lead flawlessly into a lyrically dynamic chorus that is enchanting and spectacular.
“How Long” aligns itself with some of the most popular aspects of the rock genre and is pitted to be one of Moore’s most successful releases to date. Just like he exhibited in the release of his full length album, it is clear that this artist took extensive amounts of time in order to produce a track that would be easily relatable and beloved by fans throughout the country. With stunning displays of distinct musical talent and a strong understanding of composition, Parker Moore has a bring future as a new and rapidly rising solo artist.

NPR just premiered the latest from L.A. based band Hit Bargain, “Hell Is Real”, which is off of the band’s LP Potential Maximizer, out May 11th. Nora Singh, Hit Bargain’s front woman, found inspiration for the track from her experiences of small-town Ohio. She describes her experiences as a “self-imposed exile.” The frustrations are evident on this punk-rock track as Nora sings “When we’re afraid we shoot, point blank, point blank,” and “What’s far is unknown, what’s unknown makes us afraid.”
Nora further describes the core of “Hell Is Real” saying:
There is a mural in my partner’s Ohio hometown that prominently features this phrase painted in four feet letters on the side of a building. Opposite is a picture of people suffering in a lake of hellfire. I found it a funny declaration, “HELL IS REAL”, like “THE END IS NIGH”, just this warning of this intangible myth juxtaposed with this very American rust belt town that’s falling apart, losing its jobs to automation and outsourcing. The lyrics revolve around xenophobia and Capitalist complacency.
“Hell Is Real” is not an average punk-rock track and draws on reals problems faced today by many.

Brazilian/American rock band Added Color are excited to release their latest EP Mr. Industry. The Brooklyn-based band has played has played 200 shows since 2014, touring in over 20 states and even internationally in Canada, Morocco, and Brazil. They have even played in festivals such as Porao do Roc in Brazil. With budding success, we’re thrilled to share the follow-up to their Psycho EP with you.
Mr. Industry covers an intense and diverse side of the band’s sound— the angst is in the lyrics and it is evident that this is rock that you can scream or even relax to. The song “My Industry” discusses the darker side music/entertainment industry in a very honest light. “Mr. Industry” discusses how many followers you have, what you can do to sell a band or a product and how is it that I can only live on ten dollars a day? “Mr. Industry” rightfully states “I call bullshit.” “Same Place” is a little different in the fact that it dials back the vibe to a more pyschedlic state. “I had a dream, in a familiar place but all the people that I thought I knew had unfamiliar faces,” sings the band. Added Color is able to keep a balance between chill/funky and “frustrated” rock with tracks that vary such as “Mr. Industry” and “Same Place.”

Florida natives Deaf Poets just released “Change & Bloom”, a single off of their upcoming EP of the same title which is due out on June 15th. The duo has already enjoyed quite a bit of success, having played with The Growlers, Mac DeMarco, and Matt and Kim just to name a few. Their latest single brings a throwback while incorporating a 90’s grunge style. Sean Waters provides us both the angsty vocals and the guitar on “Change & Bloom”. Bandmate Nico E.P on the other hand, shows off his mad drum skills and does not hold back. So if you are somewhere in between “I like rock” and “not heavy rock”, “Change & Bloom” is definitely for you.

Deepening their roots in the Chicago, Illinois music scene, two piece rock outfit Arthhur has brought their a-game with their newest single release, “Come Meet the Opposite Committee,” off their album of the same name. Along with having every component that composes a successful song, the underlying meaning behind the lyrics brings an all new wave of depth and social importance. Combined with their stellar beats and rhythms, Arthhur speaks up for those who deal with obsessive compulsive disorder as well as anxiety through his many musical movements and detailed lyrical presence. Throughout the track, the music is often punctuated with sudden loud releases of talent and excitement.
In what they consider, “a labor of love,” Arthhur built the new ten track album from the ground up and have come out with a masterpiece that is bound to get some traction throughout the music community. Songs like “Sheffield & Armitage” and “Katalog” are comforting in their existence, while tracks like “Character Death” and “Oral Anxiety Exam” are intriguing simply because of their titles, and continue to captivate the listener throughout. Each track is beautifully written, with lyricism tactics to combat the rest. In the future, fans can expect more art from this group that is equally as powerful and meaningful as Come Meet the Opposite Committee.
