obnox, murder radio {premiere}

Today, Cleveland-based punk artist OBNOX‘s (Lamont “Bim” Thomas) second full length LP of the year – quickly following Niggative Approach – Murder Radio drops via Ever/Never Records. It isn’t the first time he’s released multiple LPs in one year, as he cranked out two in just seven months back in 2015. In fact, he’s released an impressive seven LPs and nine EPs in the last six years alone, which just might make him the hardest working – or at least most productive – guy in the business.
Joined this time around by Steve Mehlman on drums and Chuck Cieslik on guitar, Murder Radio takes a dive into justice, politics, and darkness in OBNOX’s quintessential noisy, rough around the edges way. From first heavy-hitting track “Movimiento”, through no holds barred honest track “I Hate Everything”, all the way to final track “Cheers”, you might feel like your speakers will crash around you in a cacophony of sound, simultaneously allowing you a sense of freedom that only OBNOX’s music can.
So what are you waiting for? We’ve got it streaming right here!

Singer/songwriter Thee Conductor (Jason Butler) is revving up to release his multi-faceted album Cotton Tornado later this month. But while we wait with baited breath for the 20th, we actually have the exclusive video premiere for the title track on this fine Friday, and we can’t wait for you to get your eyes on it.

Produced by artist Dave Bryant, the video takes on the same tranquil, yet colorful personality as the track alone. Simple, honest lyrics (“Everything moves too quickly for this man”) play gently over what looks to be television screen static, blending a kaleidoscope of toned down colors on the screen in a quirky way that makes you realize there was no better direction for this video to go.

Thee Conductor will play a record release show on November 4th with Damien Jurado. More information is below. Make sure to nab those tickets for a beautiful evening celebrating the new album!

Cotton Tornado is out October 20th and is available for preorder now. Keep up with Thee Conductor here.

Fresh off his incredible September 24th show at Pianos, New York’s own solo pop genius Gianni Paci has a new track – and its accompanying video – reading and raring for us. “Pine Hollow Road” is soft, melancholic but sweet, and includes an autumn road trip-ready melody that will keep you infatuated for weeks to come.

The video is beautiful in its simplicity, at times reaching for comedic relief while Gianni sings and plays within the frame of a woman confused and frustrated. It becomes obvious that she doesn’t want him in her dance space, and the comedic relief stands strong, as we’re sure it was hard for Gianni to keep a straight face at times. We’re absolutely smitten with the the work, self-directed and produced by the artist.

Explains Gianni:

I wrote “Pine Hollow Road” about the tension and unrest of being caught up in an abusive relationship. It is an ode to both my old pseudonym, The Pine Hollows  and the street that I grew up on in Oyster Bay, New York. The accompanying video deepens the narrative, as the actor’s emotionally charged performances work in tandem with the dauntlessly plaintive lyrics. In an attempt to acknowledge my own loss of irreproachability, the roles were reversed for the video in the sense that I play the aggressor, while my voice chronicles the actress’s inner dialogue as she seeks her own brand of justice.

Smoked The Wrong Stuff is available now. Keep up with Gianni Paci on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Twelve years after their conception, Bologna, Italy based punk group Altre di B – comprised of four men named Alberto, Andrea, Giacomo, and Giovanni –  are revving up to jump across the Atlantic and perform at the Mondo.NYC festival. But they’re also prepping to release their latest album Miranda! the same week, a work that was originally concepted around the homonym book written by Quirico Filopanti in 1858. Its focus on maps, airports, geography, and cultural anthropology feel subtle, but make it one of the most intricately woven and highly educated concept albums we have heard in a while.

But, even with all of this big news and opportunities to see them live, we’re most excited about one thing. Altre di B’s brand new track “LAX” premieres right here, right now.

The vocals have a vintage punk feel to them, replete with the highly necessary emphasis on the European accent, an aspect they tend swap in and out of their music. With its upbeat tempo and fun, singable chorus, we can’t imagine this song not being a highlight of the live show. And we really just have one thing to note, a challenge, actually, for you guys. Try to NOT dance to this song. (It’s impossible.)

4 – LAX by ALTRE DI B

“Miranda!” is a concept album and a tribute to the homonym book written by Quirico Filopanti in 1858 containing the first theory of time zones. As a consequence the album is all about geography, cultural anthropology, maps and airports.

Altre di B is set to play Mondo.NYC festival, October 4th at DROM. Miranda! is out October 6th, via Black Candy Records. Keep up with the band here.

Tomorrow, Kalamazoo, Michigan’s indie/folk americana duo Gifts or Creatures – comprised ofBrandon John Foote + Bethany Foote – releases their third full-length, a ten track piece of work titled Fair Mitten. But while we wait (not so patiently) to own a copy of it for ourselves, we’ve actually got the whole thing streaming for you.

From the lengthy, beautiful instrumental intro on first track “Pontiac’s Rebellion”, to the soft, simple but detailed storytelling in “Trout of The Pines”, to the soulful and rock-tinged “Green Gold”, all the way until the last chords of final track “Conquest Of The Old Northwest”, the entirety of the album offers an almost earthy vulnerability to its sound, making each one of its listeners feel as though they are connecting with the land around them. It’s an absolute breath of fresh air, and the band seems to have had that in mind from the beginning. Explains Brandon Foote:

Ever since I was a child, I have been enamored by the boundless blue water and thick north woods of Michigan. The striking and stunning combination of wooded land and freshwater seascapes has a rich history that is often overshadowed by the coastal cities and towns of North America. I have traveled around the country and always miss the north woods when away. The Great Lakes region has always felt like a secret undiscovered jewel to me.

Do yourself a favor and take a journey over the lush and textured soundscape Gifts or Creatures has provided your ears in our exclusive album stream premiere!

Fair Mitten is out September 22nd via Earthwork Music. Keep up with Gifts or Creatures here.
