Norwegian natives Great News, recently released their new LP Wonderfault which attributes to “the imperfect being something wonderful” say the band. Wonderfault brought us their latest single “You’re Mine.” The track starts off upbeat in an reminiscent 80’s fashion. Not only are the instrumentals amazing but the lyric “Oh I’m in your mind, controlling the way you see” had me smiling mischievously from cheek to cheek. “
You’re Mine” is tilting on the border of “oh that’s so sweet, he really likes them!” and “I have you and I want you.” The single is nothing but shy, and I definitely recommend it, especially when your latest infatuation drops into your lap.

As the #5 artist on BBC Sound of 2018, Pale Waves shows no signs of stopping as they dropped their digital EP All The Things I Never Said. Listening to their EP felt slightly reminiscent of Group Love, with their energetic and pop like style. Their first track “New Year’s Eve” is an honest plea of “New Year, New Me” with lyrics like “I don’t want to be in love on New Year’s Eve, do you even want to be with me?” However, I seemingly relate with “My Obsession”, a true tale ones (unhealthy) infatuation with someone they shouldn’t probably be with. Listen to the new EP All The Things I Never Said below.
Also, look out for Pale Waves as they are set to perform at SXSW in March.

BAUM celebrates her body with her latest single “This Body.” The L.A. artist and current undergrad of USC’s music program calls on inspiration for her “This Body” through her experiences with an eating disorder and being cat called. I love hearing sassy songs, but some of my favorite lines include “Scare me by saying I’m sexy, I’ll never kiss you”, “…don’t call me Barbie, does it look like I own a fucking thing in pink?” and the best one in my opinion is “This body, this body, my home, my home.” With its upbeat tune and powerful message, “This Body” will have you ready to take on the world.

Electro R&B artist Hoodlem just released their newest single “Teenager”. What I thought was going to be an upbeat pop song is, in fact, a slow yet sultry track. While the title implicates “teenage love,” the song is about growing older and having that feeling. We at one point have experienced that “crush” feeling, which you may think go away as you get older but it doesn’t. Whether you’re 25 or 55, when you meet someone new, you still get that feeling. Hoodlem’s “Teenager” encapsulates that feeling in one lyric “I wanna know all about you.”

Toronto native Kira May found her love for music when she released her EP Health in 2014. Her album Sense, which releases this spring, takes us through the journey of her struggle with anxiety and depression. I had a first look into her video “Muscle Memory,” her latest single from Sense.
The video opens with a woman clothed in white sitting in a room, dimly lit. I didn’t notice it until about the minute mark, but she is also wearing decorative rainbow eyes. “Muscle Memory” really starts to heat up about the three minute mark when different colored paints bleed out of the woman’s body and mouth. Not in the creepy way though, as it is mesmerizing and almost cathartic. I took away from this video is that letting your colors bleed, showing that you are human is easier when you just drop the veil.

LA based Little Monarch captured attention and success with the release of their self-titled EP in 2016. There is no slowing down for the indie pop trio though. They recently flew into 2018 with a new video for the song “No Matter What”. The video starts with a group of friends traveling to the beach and hiking through the hills. It captures the essence of nature while encompassing the solidarity of friendship.
“For the video we simple wanted to capture the care free sun kissed feeling of the song,” say Little Monarch of the video.

Brooklyn-based quartet Citris recently released their infectious new single on NPR Music “Driving Me Crazy”. The track begins as something you think is going to be a melancholy, distressed, breakup song with lines like “You were my favorite lover, you kept the city fun.” However, the sweet, slow vocals by Angel Torreano are just preparation for the forceful chorus as she proclaims, “…yeah you’re driving me crazy; stop lying to me”, and then, of course, the track sneaks back to Angel’s reminiscent dialogue on her ex lover. The style is really unique and may be the perfect “yeah I’m sad, but never talk to me again song.”

Luxgaze has three singles under her belt and soon, an album. The Toronto native recently just released “Pretty Eyes” an instrumental piece described by some as a “psychedelic abstract.” It is an accurate description for the song. I’m not usually one for instrumentals unless it’s jazz, but Luxgaze is the exception. My best description of her music would be being stuck in a tunnel, and being completely fine with it. It’ll leave feeling completely zen while getting just the right amount of that “psychedelic vibe.” But really to experience this, you’ll just have to listen to “Pretty Eyes” on your own.

Amy Guess is no stranger to music, as she started her career at the age of 12 by moving to Las Vegas. She’s worked with producer Rusty Varenkamp which led “Moonlight” to grab over 500,000 views. But “Moonlight” was just the start as Guess is a sought after collaborator in the EDM scene.
I love EDM, and what I love about Amy is that she not only has the beats in her music to qualify her as “EDM”, but she also has the vocals to carry herself into other genres making herself flexible as an artist. “Sorry” confirms this as it’s clearly personal with lyrics like “but how could I have been so blind” and “wish I could say I feel your pain”. “We write our stories, we define our breaking point, no one can destroy in us what we refuse to allow them to. Only we hold those keys. Know your strength, know your worth, always keep your head high,” Amy says on her latest single.
