August has been a fascinating month for music. More so than ever, we have heard soundscapes diversify into such different categories, keeping our minds busy with guessing games of what’s to come. But while we suss all of that out, it’s time to enjoy this soundtrack with a collection of our favorite new tracks of August 2019. We all like so many different kinds of music, but this playlist is made up of songs that have influenced us as we grew up and became musicians so you will notice it’s from a general time period, the 90’s. We would’ve loved this playlist as kids, yet we still flip our wigs to every song on it now.

The summertime is enchanting. The sun is out, our schedules are insane but we are much more likely to enjoy it at this point in the year. It’s hot outside, but my friends are still finding the time and energy to play four outdoor softball. I, however, am sitting inside. I’m raking in the cool air, spritzing my plants, and watching new music videos like it’s no one’s business. Below, find some of my favorites from July so far. darro | r&b influence
This is a playlist blending my R&B influences. It may not show very much in my own music but I’m a huge R&B fan. Most of the vocal melodies I hear in my head stem from R&B artists, (it doesn’t mean I can actually sing them though!). This is a mixture of old and modern R&B songs and shows how my nostalgia can go down a rabbit hole of music. Music has the ability to make you feel very many different ways, but I think creating and retaining memories is one of the most vital reason we listen to music.

halfway mark | a july soundtrack
The first of July brings with it a new-found hope. That day is the middle of the year, and marks the 6 month mark until 2020 hits us like a ton of bricks.
