Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Molly Moore has just released “Tough Love”, the first single off her upcoming EP, Third Eye High. Moore has worked both as a part of the duo Cosmos & Creature as well as solo, as well as penning songs for other artists, including Lea Michele. “Tough Love”, created as part of her solo project, clearly displays her individuality and unique sound. Filled with tight beats and synthy backing vocals, “Tough Love” packs multidimensional aspects within a few minutes. Anyone who’s ever felt that no outsiders understood their relationship will resonate with this song; it’s the ultimate significant-other-or- nothing type of song.

Says Moore of her songs, “Dealing with human emotions isn’t always easy but I do think that we innately want to help each other. I want my music to leave people with hope amidst the ‘reality’ we are faced with.” Throughout “Tough Love”, Moore’s dedication to expressing difficult emotions authentically is evident.

Molly Moore will be dropping her brand new EP, Third Eye High, on May 11th. Until then, check out “Tough Love” for a taste of what is to come.

matthew de ver, “the gift & the wound”

matthew de ver, “the gift & the wound”

Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, Matthew De Ver has dropped his debut single, “The Gift & the Wound”. It is evident that talent runs in his family; Matthew is the son of poet and author Shel Silverstein. As is shown through his music, Matthew utilizes song to express a variety of emotions through layered symbolism and mellow tunes. “The Gift & the Wound” will appear on Matthew’s upcoming album, Surface Tension (A Tincture for Integrating Shadow). If the title of his forthcoming record is any indication, Matthew puts meticulous detail into the creation of his music, especially this album, which encapsulates the years of his life surrounding the passing of his father, specifically, his teenage years. “The Gift & the Wound” is a culmination of the artistry that has resulted from this time. Anyone who has an appreciation for attention to detail will take a lot from this track.

Matthew has also released a slightly trippy and highly symbolic music video for “The Gift & the Wound”.

sunflower bean, twentytwo in blue

American rock band from New York, Sunflower Bean – consisting ofJacob Faber on drums, Julia Cumming on bass and lead vocals, and Nick Kivlen on lead guitar and vocals – is back with the follow up from their last album Human Ceremony titled TwentyTwo in Blue. The new album has eleven songs in total and is arriving March 23rd. The sound has a softer, sweeter, and more rich tone to it, honing in on topics people can relate to.

Singer Julia Cumming lends her vocals to the track “TwentyTwo”, which addresses about society’s expectation of women and what they are supposed to be in the world. Another single from the album is titled “I Was a Fool”. The song is about love that will make you happy, yet sad at the same time. The song is about the dizziness of love and how confused it makes you feel. “I Was a Fool” makes you feel all the emotions of love at once.

“Crisis Fest” humbles us, discussing men in uniform and a feeling of utter hopelessness in tense and uncertain times. Lines about storming the kingdom are highly relatable to modern militant rules, though might be super relatable in the every day, a sad but lesson-inspiring truth.

It is clear that Sunflower Bean has found their voice with their new album. TwentyTwo in Blue will be available March 23rd. Keep up with Sunflower Bean here.

basic behavior proves to be far more than basic

basic behavior proves to be far more than basic

Since they announced their debut album in January, fans of FRIGS have been waiting with baited breath for its release. Now, after countless hours of work and recording sessions, this sludge-pop band is finally ready to show the music world what they have to offer. Their album Basic Behavior features their signature stark sounds and diverse influences. Led by Bria Salmena, this Toronto-based group has banded together with all of their individual thought and emotions in order to produce an all encompassing sound that is unique and interesting. With this particular attribute, once you listen to their work, they become impossible to forget and you find yourself wanting to hear more.

Even more impressive is that this album was completely self produced and was written and recorded within a 16-month period. During this time, all who were involved were able to explore their sound and solidify lyrical subject matter without the outside pressure that might have come from a producer. Thus, they were able to create a psychedelic element within their sons that contains aspects of emotional depth and immerse their listeners in hypnotic rhythms. Without a doubt, this new release will propel them forward and bring them even closer to finding where they fit in the music community.

Basic Behavior is out now. Keep up with FRIGS here.

Today, the internet gains a treasure trove with Ascot-based indie duo Febueder‘s new music video release. Mixed by Marta Salogni (Björk, Frank Ocean, The xx), “Hans” exists in a rich, expansive soundscape enhanced by the lush, brooding vibes of the video directed by Lexi Kiddo. The video itself is a work of art, clean lines and solid blocks of color somehow adding layers to the painful reality you see unfolding, as our protagonist climbs and climbs to what feels like no avail, carrying a boulder along with him. It’s emotional and raw, and induces a range of emotions over its quick 3:13 timeframe.

gena perala, “good girl”

gena perala, “good girl”

Based in Vancouver, BC, Gena Perala has just released her newest visual single “Good Girl,” which embodies several emotions and topics that have been combined with tactful artistry that is notable for an artist at such an early stage. This new single is the first since her independent album Exactly, Nowhere which was well received by critics and fans alike. “Good Girl,” has been scheduled to be part one of a three part EP that is going to be released one song at a time as part of a larger concept album. Not only will this have all of her fans on the edges of their seats, but it will also give listeners a chance to enjoy all of the work that she has put into her new releases.

Not only is her music easy to listen to, but it also has the unique ability to create an atmosphere for the listener. In her new release, the single opens with a series of “ooh’s” and “ahhs” which sets the stage for the rest of the “haunting” lyrics, beats and rhythms that seems to be one of Perala’s signature sounds. Not only does her music create an atmosphere, but it also exudes a kind of delicate power that also adds to the nuance of the music. As time goes on, those who know her are excited to hear more of what this artist has to offer.

While we wait for that gem, they released their new song “Black Chemicals”, which is about the emotions that you feel when you fall in love. The “Black Chemicals” that are addressed in the song are the feelings associated with falling in love or wanting to be loved. The song is saying that love takes on a mind of its own. The black chemicals are like a loose animal that cannot be contained. The strong composition allows the listener to feel all of the emotions that the singer is feeling.

Rainbrother’s “Black Chemicals” is a great song that really sets the tone for what the group is really about and what they stand for.
